Page 6 CLUBS AT WEST BUSY Diana Club Saturday, April 27, the Westmont Playmakers pre sented their production of Rebel Without ^ Cause. This stirring drama of the conflicts of the teen age world provided an hour and a half of dramatic entertainment. The play, dramatized by James Fuller from Dr, Robert Lindner’s book of the s-ime name, ' presented an e-'citing, tragically humon cj ■Tory of a young deli-iiU'snt and the sources of problems. It is a story of two young people trying to reconcile their T^irents. In the search t ley find both themselves cid each other. FHA State FHA Convention in laieirh was attended by .ibb^/ j-i’clson,Sue Thompson, 4d Snsie Keams. They I'tended lectures on \unching Good Citizen- lp TLrough Homomaking” 3i \ on"Action for Citizen- jhLp.” The speakers for the convention were Dr. Charles F. Carroll and Dr. Gerald B. Janes. The fea ture entertainment was a concert by the United States Marine Band of Camp Lejeune. Nearly 5,300 chapter members attended the convention. FFA News On May 7, three of the FFA members, Wayne Hicks, Roger Ritter , and John Inman, gave a radio pro gram on the greenhouse. They ejplained how they planted the tomato plants, told of the problems they encountered , and the methods they used to over come them. Open House was held Sunday, May 7, also. Library Club News The menibers of the Li brary Club have done an excellent job during this school year helping with all phases of library work. They have helned with the processing of new books, with the showing of many interesting films and filmstrips, and with the filing of periodicals. The entire student body and faculty have had access to the many facilities of the library. We are proud of the musical library that has been begim. The audio visual materials have cer tainly been used. Some times we need more rooms to accom'modate all who want to use the facilities. The teachers have con ducted aejay interesting and informative research ‘projects through the li brary materials. The last call of the club is for the return of all library books. We shall appreciate your co operation. We thank the faculty and students of West High for a good year. We, the members of the Li brary Club, have enjoyed serving you. Four students from West Montgomery entered pro jects in the South Pied mont Science Fair on March 23 at Charlotte. The four students—Larry Saunders, Richard Long, Frank Roberts, and David Bruton— \ each had a project in the physical field—two :b: the senior division (10th-I2th grades) and tvro in the junior division (7th~§';:9th grades). Larry’s project, "Sep aration of the Rare Earth Elements by Iron -Exchange Chromatography," took the first honorable mention in the senior physical field. His project was also av7ar- ded the highly-prized Ame rican Chemical Society Award for the best project in the chemical field of the senior division. Larry’s project v;as one of the m.ain attention-attrac- ters iThroughout the entire fair, but vras kept from winning any higher honors because of a previous honor concerning the Junior Science Symposium.. Richard’s project, "An Emission Spectrograph, " took the second honorable mention in the senior phy sical field. His project was also the scene of much attention. David’s and Frank’s projects shovjed up favor ably.
