Monday, June 1, 1964 THE HI-LIGHTS Page 3 LIWOOD COLLINS Jeff Brown ■Memorial Sportsmanship Award Most Valuable Senior Winner of the Jeff Brown Me morial Sportsmanship Award for 1964 is Linwood Dalton Collins. The award, created this year in memory of Jeff Brown, an avid supporter of the athletic program at Ragsdale, is to be an annual award. It is for good sportsman ship, and represents one of the highest honors a Ragsdale athlete can obtain. He has been a class and home room officer four years at Rags dale. Also, he has been a memi- ber of the Pep Club four years. As a participant in school athletics, he has been a member of the Mon ogram Club since his sophomore year. Linwood has been in the Junior Civitans since his sophomore year, serving as an officer each year. As a junior and senior, he serve^i on the Annual Staff and Student Coun cil. In his junior year, he was dele gated to represent Ragsdale at Boys’ State. He was awarded the Most Popular boy in the Senior Superlatives. Linwood has been very active in school athletics. As a freshman, he played junior varsity football. He progressed *o serve on the varsity team for the remaining three years of high school. In his sophomore year, he was awarded the Most Improved Football Award. In ad dition, he has played intramural sports since his sophomore year. In his junior year, he was a member of the track team and won the Most Valuable Track Award tJiat year. He continued to be active in track his senior year. As a senior, he was one of the football team’s captains and played some basketball. DEE ANN COLEY ValccUctorian CANDIE BLACK Salutatorian .lAMIE CATLIN Best All-Around Senior Kenneth T. Miller Mem. Award As a senior, Linwood Wcis also awarded one of the Outstanding Defensive Awards for football. One of many awards, this was a special honor for -i defensive player on the Ragsdale team. In addition, Linwood has been named by the Senior Cla.ss as being the Most Valuable Senior of 1964, p.n honor wliicsh could not have been bestowed on a more deserv ing student. Linwood plans to enter State in the fall. DEE ANN The Valedictorian of the Senior Class of 1964 is Dee Ann Coley. Dec Ann, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Coley of Greens boro, was bom August 22, 1964. She attended school at Sedgefield, Jamestown Elementary and Rags dale. Dee Ann has been quite active throughout high school. In spite of her many activities, she has col lected several honors. She has served as a class of ficer for four years and as a home room officer her freshman and senior years. In addition to being a class of ficer, she was a member of the Latin I Club as a freshman. Also, she managed to obtain perfect at tendance that year. As a sophomore. Dee Ann was elected by her classmates to serve on the Student Council. She held membership in the Latin II and Civinette Clubs. Members of the Civinette Club saw fit to elect her to an office her first year in the club. Again, she managed to obtain perfect attendance. Her junior year was crowded with activities. She served on the Student Council and was elected secretary of the group. She held membership in the Math, Beta, Latin, French, and Civinette Clubs, and was an officer in Civinettes. For the third year in a row, she had perfect attendance. In addi tion, she was designated as Chief Marshall that year. Dee Ann continued activity in her senior year. She served on the Student Council again. As in her freshman year, she was a member of the Pep Club. She continued to serve the Math Club, this time as an officer. She was still an active part of the Beta, French, Latin, and Civinette Clubs. As a senior. Dee Ann was named one of the Senior Superlatives. She was Ragsdale’s Most Intelligent girl. When Ragsdale gained a branch of the National Honor So ciety, she was one of the four seniors tapped. CANDIE LYNN BLACK Salutatorian Miss Candle Lynn Black is the Salutatorian for the class of 1964 at Ragsdale, Candle, born May 18, 1943, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bus E. Black of Jamestown. She attended Jamestown for eight years and en tered Ragsdale as a freshman in 1960. Candie has received a long list of honors during her four years at Ragsdale. Besides showing her school spirit by participating in the Pep Club, Library Club, Tri-Hi-Y, Monogram Club, Latin Club. French Club, Math Club, Beta Club and annual staff. Candle has shown her ability to get along with people by playing J. V. Basketball and varsity basketball, being a home room officer for three years, and a class officer for one year. Candie also has displayed an un usual quality for leadership. She has served as Vice-President of the Student Council, was selected as Girl’s State Representative, served as a Marshall, was a delegate to Wake Forest Leadership Confer* ence, and was recently selected to be one of the charter members of Ragsdale’s newly formed National Honor Society. Candie plans to en ter the University of Nort'n, Caro lina at Chapel Hill next year. JAMIE CATI.IN Best All .-\round Senior Senior Jamee Claire Catlin was selected to receive the Kenneth T. Miller Memorial Award. This award is presented for the first time this year by friends of the late Kenneth Miller to the best all around senior. Although Jamee has only attend ed Raigsdale for three years, she is well known and well liked by most of the students. She has served on the Student Council for your years, been an active member in the La tin Club, Pep Club, French Club, Beta Club, Math Club, and the- Civinettes. As a junior she served as a Marshall, was Chairman of the- Junior-Senior Decoration Commit tee, and received the D A R Good Citizen Award. Jamee’s final year at Ragsdale was topped by taking an active part in the senior play, being chosen as a Senior Superlative, and being selected as a member of the National Honor Society.
