Page 4 THE HI-LIGHTS Monday, June 1, 1964 -•r' \ JOE VENABLE Wm. H. Geyer, Jr., Mem. Award William lindsey (Joe) Venable has been awarded the William H. Geyer, Jr. Memorial Award. He has been a member of the baseball team and Monogram Club for four years. He was a member of the Pep Club his freshman and senior years. Joe has been a member of the Junior Civitans since his sapho'more year. He bccame a member of the French Club as a sophomore. As a junior, he continued his French Club activities as well as playing intramural sports. In addition to baseball, Joe played football his last two years. The Bill Geyer Award is given in memory of Bill Geyer who was a star athlete at Jamestown prior to his death in the service in 1955. It is presented each year to a var sity team member playing at least two major .sports. The award win ner must be in the upper third of hi.s class, must have a co-operative, understanding and sympathetic at titude toward his teammates, must have a sense of responsibility to his school and the ability to lead, and must be one of the most out standing athletes in the school. Joe is well-chosen for the award. The Senior Class Picnic On Thursday evening, May 14, at 6:15, the Senior Class, faculty, and friends of Ragsdale High School gathered at Hiffh Point City Lake for the annual P.T.A. Picnic honoring the Senior Class. A softball game between the fac ulty and students started the picnic rolling, and the faculty was vic- PIIYLLIS TUCKER Most Valuable Girl’s Basketball Flayer Phyllis Marie Tucker has been recognized as the Most Valuable Girls' Basiket.ball player for 1964. The trophy is awarded to the girl who has been of the most value to the basketball team in playing ability, sportsmanship and team work. Phyllis played junior varsity bas ketball in her freshman year and went on to play varsity ball her last three years. As an athlete, -■she was a member of the Pep Club for foiu: years and of the Mono gram Club for her last two years. In addition to her outstanding performance in basketball, Phyllis contributed much to the extra-cur ricular activities of the school. She was a homeroom officer in her freshman year. She was a member of the Latin Club her freshman and sophomore years and an honorary member her last two years. She was also a member of the Library Club her sophomore year. She was a member and officer in the Art Club her junior and senior years. As a senior, she was a member of the Beta Club and HI-LIGHTS Staff. R.ANNY WAUGH Most Valuable Golf Player Ranny Waugh, a senior, has been selected as the Most Valuable Golf Player this year. Ranny, Who has attended Rags dale since he was a sophomore, has been an active golf player for three years. Besides participating in sports, .Ranny is also in the Monogram Club, French Club, Beta Club, and Pep Cluib. When he was a junior he .served as a Marshall and this year he was selected as a Senior Superlative. ) torious highlighted by Mr. Madi son’s two home runs. After the softball game, the group darted to the picnic tables which were piled high with every kind of food imaginable. Seniors, par ents, teachers, and friends all ate until they could hold no more. BILL GROOME Bill Groome is the recipient of the Most Valuaible Baseball Player Award and one of the ricipients of the Most Valuable Defensive Play ers Award this year. CHARLES SEMIVIONS Cobb Blocking Trophy Charles Simmons, a senior, has been awarded the Cobb Blocking Trophy for 1964. The award is presented annual ly to the person who has shown he has the qualities of leaders;hip, at titude, and spirit. "Butch” has Ehown these qualities by playing football for three years, serving as Tri-Captain for one year, being a member ol the track team for three years, being a Junior Civitan for three years, and serving on the annual staff for two years. BILL GROOME Most Valuable Baseball Player Most Valuable Defensive Player Bill has been one of the most active boys in sports at Ragsdale. He has played varsity baseball for four years, varsity basketball for three years, and varsity football for three years. Bill also took an active part in the Latin Club, Mon ogram Club, Beta Club, and the an nual staff. This year Bill was se lected as the Most Athletic Sen ior. We look back at the years that have gone by. We hold within our hearts these memories dear, The good beside the bad they seem to lie. Each one remembered when they happened here. Now graduation time demands our thoughts, One goal we each have set almost attained. .^nd with it all our future plans are brought, A guide to future goals that we have named.
