POPS AND CRACKLES One of Dr. Freeman’s pupils has had some trouble in the 'library in finding out where the book of Exodus is. Thelma Johnston in taking two Newish to her table for dinner the other night rushed hui’riedly down to Miss Long’s end of the table and exclaimed: “Move down, move down, let me get here. I’ve got company.” Then seeing that Miss Long showed no sign of doing so she urged, “You have to move down when other girls have company,—go on.” Newish Mary Blunt walking up to Miss Carroll with a nine hundred page volume of tlie life of Ohai-lemagne—“Miss Carroll, can you tell me w'Jiere I can find anymore about the life of Charlemagne?” Newish Mary Ethel Lewis—Do Fresh mans liave to have chaperones to go to church ? Helen Scntelle wants to know it she can join the Sophoni^ore Class. Eli/.abetli Fonvillo rnuiilng exeitcdiy up to Mi.ss Johnston—“Wliat did yon make on your English?” I'licn noticing the bunch of papers in iier hand—“'What section of English arc yon in anyway?” Pattie Smith—I’m going liome for tlie week end, and I’m not coming back vintil Tuesday. Julia N.—How can yow do that? Don’t you have any classes on Monday? Pattie S.—Not a tiling except laundiy. Carolyn Mercer, a preaclicv’s daughter, wrote to lier parents recently and told them she had not lieax'd from them since Moses built the Ark, Elizabeth White—Say, will the.se seniors here come back next year? M. Wyatt—No, of course not. E. White—Well, then I’d like to know who is going to take their places? A DREAM AKD ITS SEQUEL She slept and dreamed that a Sabbath passed, qu5et, serene, and beautiful. She walked upon the streets of Raleigh in the vicinity of Meredith and it seemed that the fairer youth of the state was there. To this youth leisurely strolling along the shady walks or pleasantly spending the afternoon sitting on the spacious campus, all was inno cent and good. But, alas, she awoke, and her dream was as a bubble. She found it all a joke. It was an ideal autmmial Smiday afternoon to be sure, b\it upon the Meredith campus, ^vhich was smaller rather than the one of the dream, she found not the vision of her dream, but rather a sidewalk crowded w’ith girls who were seeking recreation, perhaps, but in a limited space surely. And boys! Well, not only the fairer youth was to be seen. The passer-by nitight reasonably won der if he beheld a co-educational school, or was it a school at all? There were boys walking, boys riding, boys standing in groups, and boys sitting lined thickly along the walks. Their jjurpose in so doing was better knowii to themselves, perhflT''’. thf’-n to any Has the passer-by wondered if Meredith is Ji girls school? Well, it is, and it is one of liigh ideals. “This tiling must come to an end,” said tlie one who had caught a vision of a Sunday afternoon without a mob, and the possibility of a stroll for pleasure and good of body and soul, fi'oo from the inspection of the critical eye of we know not whom. Accordingly, the attention of tliose whom it most concerns, the students of the college, has been claimed by this weekly occurrence. And does the reader wish to knoM’ the student opinion rcgartling the matter? Well, here it is as expressed in the meeting of those students. “To say the least, it is a shame; it is a ‘mess’! It i.s scandalous, and it should be ended now and forcverni(ore. It is positively ridicu lous. We have some self-respect, we will not endure this injustice, and finally, Mere dith College Canipiis is no zoo or show ground and will not be regarded as such.” Francis Hey^^’ood.
