THE TWIG ALUMNAE >VK AIIB THANKFUL The ttiiug for which I’m most tliaiik- ful for Meretlitli today Is not her won derful new home, ypaclou3 in'ouiids and buildings and material comforts, although for theae my heart sings a song of Joy always—not her wonder ful student body of splendid North Carolina girls, although they inspire me whenever I see them—nor yet her flue faculty members, for which I praiso God, but It is for the great Christian spirit that abonnds within her walls and that sends her daughters out to Are our State and many others with culturcd Christian women, who wherever they go and in whatever work they engage hold up the hlgli ideals of righteousness and make' of their communities a better place in which to live. VntoiNi,\. Eiidiumix Simmh, '04. To those of us who daily go up and down the halls and beyond the four walls of Meredith conies the I'e- mlndsr of this season ol the year that there is much for wliieh wo may be grateful. Wo have passed through tlie first uneasy, strange days in a new location, with bullcHngs too fresh from the hand of carponter and niEison to give any Impi-easlon per- maiioncc. From au avid desert of dust in dry weather and a veritable marsh of red mud In wot, with na trace ol llviuE green exccpt tor the grand old oaks of tlie prove, the Meredith cam pus hns been traiibformed a& by the waiving of a magic wand. The severe lines of our brick buildings have been Bottened by the planting of evergreen Bbrubs, against whlcb the bright col ors of the llowevs of faculty gardeus have shown forth in splendor. Walks of crushed stone, leading in all di rections, are a comfort to our feet and a delight to onr eyes. The court Is soon to wear a carpet oE green, and tliu chug-chug of tractor gives elo quent promise of a greon-sward tlTat will flank the adminlatratton building on every side. On the west there are tenuis and basket Iiall courts, on the east a new gymnasium; all of which contribute to the sum total of Mere dith life and happiness.
