Four The Twig May 8,1980 B.S.U. NOTES Meredith Girls Attend B.Y.P.U. Meeting The Raleigh Associational B. Y. P. U. held its regular meeting in two sessions at the Cary Bap tist Church in Cary, N. C., on April 30. The afternoon session took the form of a cabinet meet ing where plans for the next month’s associational work were discussed. The after-dinner session was the regular associational meet ing. Mr. James A. Ivey was the leader of an enthusiastic group discussion at this meeting. The B. Y. P. U.’s of the Cary Baptist Church were hostesses at a banquet in the church base ment between the two sessions of the meeting. A delicious menu of fried chicken, giblet gravy, creamed potatoes, to mato salad on lettuce hearts, candied sweet potatoes, pickles, hot biscuits, Neapolitan ice cream and pound cake, and coffee was served. Those Meredith girls attend ing the meeting were: Miriam Brady, presidept of the Winnie Rickett B. Y. P. U.; Prue Choate, president of the Charles E. Brewer Union, and next year’s newly elected general B. Y. P. U. officers, Velma Preslar, gen eral director; Georgia Cowan, assistant director, and Gertrude Bostick, secretary and treasurer. Priced year was the Morning Watch services which were held in the court last Sunday morning at 7:30. Several visitors and about 150 girls were present. Kathleen Durham, Y. W. A. president, presided over the de votional period. After the song. Holy, Holy, Holy,” she led the group in prayer. Mary Lee gave a reading on God in nature. Miss Elliot made the principal talk. Her discussion was on Mountain Heights of Inspira tion Leading to a Nobler Life.” Many Scripture verses were woven into helpful suggestions for the Christian life. After ward the song, “Take My Life and Let It Be,” was sung as a dedication prayer. Committee Meetings This Week Committees have been ap pointed from the ten B. Y. P. U.'s on the campus for the bus iness of nominating the union general officers for the coming year. Reports are to be made in the next union meetings. Where Were You Sunday? Were you at Sunday School last Sunday morning? If you weren’t, you missed a most help ful message. You missed a greater part of the weekly spir itual food needed for a well bal anced Christian. Many Guests Come for Hospital ity Week-End (Conlintud fr«m paft came Saturday evening in the re ception for the visitors in the parlors. The receiving line was composed of Dr. and Mrs. Brew er, Miss Lawrence, Margaret Craig, Irene Thomas, Glennie Paul, Evelyn McCall, Ruth Phil lips, Margaret Peacock, Oreon Bostick, Margaret Briggs, Pat Abernethy, Dorothy Rowland, and Miss Madaline Elliott. Janet Browne presided over the regis tration book, in which all the guests registered. Miss Grimmer was in charge of the punch bowl, and the Meredith granddaugh ters served the guests. Follow ing the reception everyone went to the auditorium to enjoy “Lady Windermere’s Fan,” which was presented by the Dramatic Club. A very impressive devotional service was held at the fountain in the court on Sunday morning at seven-thirty. The Astrotek- ton and Philaretian literary so cieties presented the visitors with lovely corsages. The guests accompanied their hostesses to the various Raleigh churches Sunday morning, and those who stayed over till Sunday evening had the opportunity of hearing Dr. Poteat’s colorful program of organ music Sunday afternoon. Wake Forest Union Entertains Brothers and sisters in B. Y. P. U. met Friday afternoon when the boys from “D” Union at Wake Forest came over and took the girls of the Perry Mor gan Union to Allen’s Pond for a picnic. By a large fire on the bank of the pond weinies were roasted. Sandwiches and iced lemonade were also served. All the Meredith girls reported that the Wake Forest boys are real hosts. The success of the meet was brought about not only by the skill of the contestants, but also by the efficient management of the officials and loyal spectators. The officials were: Referee and starter, Miss Anderson; scorer, Annie Mildred Herring; clerk of course, Dorothy Rowland; as sistant clerk of course, Sarah Cullom; timer, Bruce Gore; judges, Della Roberson, Eliza beth Apple, Margaret Lucas, Lois Sawyer.
