Record Review
Have you been wondering
what to do with those copper
heads that are bulging the sides
of your piggy (bank, of course) ?
Why not turn them in for a new
album to add to your collection?
Stephenson’s Music Company
recommends a Tschaikowsky
album — one consisting of None
But the Lonely Heart, Waltz of
the Flowers, Barcarole, Sleeping
Beauty Waltz, and Melodie or
the one of his Piano Concerto in
B flat. In case you are looking
for records from the popular an
gle, how about a Glenn Miller
album with the songs, Tuxedo
Junction, Stardust, and Ameri
can Patrol?

Mrs. Brodie
the budget
“You have to be a trained seal to balance a budget these
days!” complains Mrs. Brodie.
“Everything costs so much! Take clothing—when you
can get it,” says Mrs. Brodie, “and look at the price
tags! And food—that’s simply skyrocketed! Housefur-
nishings—if you can find a house to furnish—are way up!
“But not electricity!” says Mrs. Brodie. “No, indeed!”
says Mrs. Brodie.

“Electricity,” says Mrs. Brodie, “is just about the
easiest thing in my budget to balance!”

If you have a budget to balance—and who hasn’t?—
you’ll appreciate that the low cost of electricity is no
accident. It took plenty of practical planning and expe
rience on the part of the folks in this company who
—like Mrs. Brodie—have budgets to balance, too.

FRESHMAN FROLICS
The first open week-end found
many freshmen making elabo
rate but hasty departures from
the college. While gaily singing
such tunes as “Hi docey do,
away we go,” shoes were pol
ished, hair slicked in place, and
elbows scrubbed, in order that
the careful eyes of mother might
not be disappointed. Then smell
ing sweetly of cologne and life
buoy, they scampered away, bus
ily composing grand speeches
about the new life at college.
But it is rumored that, after the
first joy of being home, some
were prepared to stray away
from mamma.
IRENE HUOPANA found that
candy apples at the county fair
were even better than those at
the fair in Raleigh. But then, she
had not already eaten three hot-
dogs, several cups of French
fries, washed down by refresh
ing Pepsi-Colas, which, by the
way hit the spot a little too hard.

BETSY MORGAN spent all
Sunday afternoon watching the
boys play volley ball. She was
so excited in leaving school that
she forgot her raincoat and got
wet.
MARGUERITE LEATHER-
MAN, from Lincolnton, had
quite a problem. She tried to
prove that she was getting more
intelligent, but failed.
IMOGENE NARRON especial
ly enjoyed going to a football
game, eating, and sleeping. PEG
GY LEWIS got home just in time
for her grandmother’s birthday
dinner.
CAROLYN COVINGTON had
so much fun she missed two
buses and got back to school
only five minutes before the
deadline.
SARAH POPE “saw every
body at the drug store,” and had
a fried egg and buttered bis
cuits.
So, when Sunday night came,
it was a tired group of girls who
went to bed in the college dormi
tory with a sigh.

Wednesday, October 11,
marked the opening of the Hock
ey Tournament. The first game
was tied by the Sister classes by
the score of 2-2. The game was
well played by both teams. On
Thursday, the Sophomore-
Senior team took the game with
a 1-0 victory over the Freshman-
Junior team. The single score, a
spectacular long corner hit, was
made by Jean Griffith. The Phi-
Astro game is scheduled for next
Wednesday.
Immediately after the Hockey
Tournament is over, fall soccer
practices will begin. Let’s carry
the spirit and enthusiasm which
highlighted the Hockey season
on into soccer.
The annual sports dinner will
be held Nov. 1. At this time the
Varsity hockey team will be an
nounced and the Freshman
Hockey stick given to that girl
which is chosen for outstanding
merit in hockey this term. Other
awards will be given.
