While gaily singing such tunes as “Hi docey do, away we go,” shoes were pol ished, hair slicked in place, and elbows scrubbed, in order that the careful eyes of mother might not be disappointed. Then smell ing sweetly of cologne and life buoy, they scampered away, bus ily composing grand speeches about the new life at college. But it is rumored that, after the first joy of being home, some were prepared to stray away from mamma. IRENE HUOPANA found that candy apples at the county fair were even better than those at the fair in Raleigh. But then, she had not already eaten three hot- dogs, several cups of French fries, washed down by refresh ing Pepsi-Colas, which, by the way hit the spot a little too hard. BETSY MORGAN spent all Sunday afternoon watching the boys play volley ball. She was so excited in leaving school that she forgot her raincoat and got wet. MARGUERITE LEATHER- MAN, from Lincolnton, had quite a problem. She tried to prove that she was getting more intelligent, but failed. IMOGENE NARRON especial ly enjoyed going to a football game, eating, and sleeping. PEG GY LEWIS got home just in time for her grandmother’s birthday dinner. CAROLYN COVINGTON had so much fun she missed two buses and got back to school only five minutes before the deadline. SARAH POPE “saw every body at the drug store,” and had a fried egg and buttered bis cuits. So, when Sunday night came, it was a tired group of girls who went to bed in the college dormi tory with a sigh. The first game was tied by the Sister classes by the score of 2-2. The game was well played by both teams. On Thursday, the Sophomore- Senior team took the game with a 1-0 victory over the Freshman- Junior team. The single score, a spectacular long corner hit, was made by Jean Griffith. The Phi- Astro game is scheduled for next Wednesday. Immediately after the Hockey Tournament is over, fall soccer practices will begin. Let’s carry the spirit and enthusiasm which highlighted the Hockey season on into soccer. The annual sports dinner will be held Nov. 1. At this time the Varsity hockey team will be an nounced and the Freshman Hockey stick given to that girl which is chosen for outstanding merit in hockey this term. Other awards will be given.
