Betty Street, instructor in sociology, is a native of Georgia She received her A.B. from Georgia State Woman’s College, and will be awarded her A.m! from the University of North Carolina in June, 1949. For three years she was program director for the Savannah Y.W.C.A. Elizabeth Lee Rezner, instruc tor in the Modern Language Department, is a native of Dur ham. She was awarded her A.B. at Wellesley College and her A.M. at Duke University. A graduate of Sullins College, Bsggy White is the new instruc tor in physical education. She was formerly an instructor in the Physical Education Depart ment at Sullins. Anne Swain, the new book keeper from Virginia was awarded her B.S. from the Woman’s College of the U.N.C. Mrs. B. E. Scott, secretary to the dean and registrar, is a native of Oklahoma where she received her B.S. at the Univer sity of Oklahoma. Mrs. Elizabeth Davis Reid, Director of the News Bureau, is a Meredith graduate, and has done radio work in Raleigh and Wadesboro. Mrs. Geneva Haldeman Wil- mot, instructor in voice, re ceived her B.S. and M.A. from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. She also studied at the Julliard School of Music. Lois Smith, dietician, is from St. Pauls, North Carolina. She received her B.S. at the Wom an’s College of the U.N.C., and secured her “internship” and membership in the American Dietetic Association at Florida State College. The new assistant dietician is Janet Rhyne of Stanley, N. C. She is a graduate of Flora Mac Donald College. lyle Campbell, presiding at the opening, gave a brief review of the history of the college. Miss Donley of the Meredith Music Department rendered two vocal selections, after which the Rev. J. Winston Pierce, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Durham, gave the address. C. The AAAS is one of the largest science organizations in the country. Among the many well-known personalities present who ad dressed the meeting, was Presi dent Harry S. Truman. Previous to this meeting. Dr. Yarborough attended the Amer ican Institute of Biological Sciences. Dr. Yarborough did research in the Agronomy Department at State College during the sum mer.
