The faculty at Meredith also un
derwent a transfiguration. Forgotten
were irregular verbs, logarithms,
un-corrected themes. The French
Revolution, and A minors. With the
wave of a magic wand, they became
Alice with a lilting voice and long
flowing hair. The White Rabbit, al
ways in a tremendous hurry to
please the King and Queen of
Hearts, the Mad Hatter with un
answerable riddles, the White Night
on a green horse. Tweedledum and
Tweedledee, the rude Cheshire Cat
and all of the beloved characters
from Alice in Wonderland.
It was as if the days since child
hood were flipped away, and once
more the audience was able to ac
company Alice on her mysterious

Dean Peacock received a very

26 when Mrs. John H. Hamilton,
Jr., came to be his secretary. Mrs.
Hamilton is originally from Beau
fort County. After living in Florida
for a while, she came to Raleigh
where she met and married her
husband, John Hamilton, who is a
counselor with the Domestic Re
