The Meredith College

practice for its first game
September 21.
The team, under the
direction of Mrs. Helena
Allen, consists of the following
members: Susan Daniel and
Mary Jane Ludt, seniors;
Mary Margaret Steele,
junior; and Karen Pat-
seavouris, sophmore, all of
whom are returning to the
court for another season.
The new members are
Patrice Strifert and Mryna
Olcese, seniors; Ami Gray
and Betty Joyce, sophomores;

and Janet Cherry, freshmen.
Mrs. Allen and the team
members are looking forward
to a successful and exciting
season.
Says team-member Mary
Jane Ludt, “Our team is
young but very experienced
and talented. When the old
and new members get
together and share their
talents, Meredith will have a
winning team.”
“The team would like to
invite the entire student body
and faculty to our matches,
she continued. Come and
support our school’s volleyball
team. It will be most
rewarding.”
Swimmer Beth Carlton practices the Butterfly in a recent swim

Newspaper Internship
Some of the nation’s tq)

summer internships to college
students through the
Newspaper Funds Internship
Program.
Two types of internships
are offered: The Editing

Prior to the internship,
each student must attend an
intensive copyediting training
course at a university
designated by the Fund. (The

The Reporting Internship
involves full-time reporting or
news gathering work.
Both programs offer a
salary paid by the individual
newspaper and a scholarship
of $500-^00. Forms to request
applications may be obtained
from Career Planning Ser
vices. The deadline for all
entries is December 1.
World-Wide Assistantships
The American Graduate
School of International
Management is offering ten
world-wide assistantships
covering tuition for one term’s
graduate study to candidates
who have completed majors in
business administration,
humanities, physical and life
sciences, and social sciences.
Applications must be
received by November l for
spring entrance or April 1 for
fall entrance.
According to Mrs.
Massey, the t^m was chosen
after a round-robin com
petition in which each girl
played every other game in a
12-point game.
Those players ac
cumulating the highest
number of points were the
ones selected for the team.
Total scores were extremely
close, Mrs. Massey said.
During the season, team
members will be required to
play one challenge match per
week; therefore the ladder
will be changing throughout
the season.
Big challenges to the team
will be Saint Mary’s and
Peace colleges, who have
proven to be very strong
competition in the past.
Coaches also expect North
Carolina State University to
be much stronger this year
than last year.
Says Mrs. Massey, “The
team is an enthusiastic group
which working extremely
hard five days a week-the
team would like the support of
our entire student body.”
