PAGE 4 THE TWIG DECEMBER 9. 1981 Notes from Career Services INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES The North Carolina State Government Spring Volunteer Intern Programs offers students exposure to public service professions within state government. Although there is no sti^nd, the intern gains a low-risk, temporary experience in observing others’ and perhaps her own career direction without a permanent commitment. With consent of a professor, the student-intern can gain academic credit. Students work approximately 100 hours during the semester for 10 weeks. Applicants should submit: a state government application, a resume, a cover letter stating personal and career interests, and a transcript of post-secondary grades to the Youth Involvement Office, 112 West Lane Street, Raleigh, NC 27611. The application deadline is January 22nd, but applications should be submitted as soon as possible. Volunteer Internships in Bethesda, Md. - L. Miranda and Assoc., Inc., a consulting firm that handles projects would like an intern from Meredith. Two of the current programs are “Studying Sexual Harassment of Students in Higher E^cation" and “The Value of a Foreign Language in Non Language Careers.” Internship will involve writing, editing, and literature review in addition to other assigned tasks. National Gallery of Art - 1982 Summer Internship Program - Interns are assigned to a Gallery office suitable to their backgrounds, interests and stated preferences. A Gallery curator or departmet head directs the intern’s summer project. In addition, interns spend three hours a week at briefings on museum administration; another three hours a week are devoted to curatorial sessions on connoisseurship and display policy. These positions are at the Civil Service, GS-5 level ($6.18 per hour). Possible intern positions are available in: American Painting, Education Department, French Painting, Graphic Arts, Italian Painting, Northern European Painting, Office of Assistant Director, Office of Chief Curator, Photographic Archives, and Sculpture. Must expect to receive a BA degree in art history or museum-related studies and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0. Deadline: February 12, 1982. Julius A. Thomas Fellowship tor ethnic minority groups - graduate educatim at the maters’s degree level in career counseling and placement at colleges and universities. Includes an internship in a college career counseling and placement center and possible summer placement in a business organization. Stipend up to $2,500 for tuition, fees and housing plus maximum allowance of $150 for books and materials. The student will serve as assistant to the Equal Opportunity Specialist who is involved in processing of discriminatory complaints based on Title VII, Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Age Discrimination or Equal Pay Act. SUMMER EMPLOYMENT Seasonal employment in the National Park Service as Park Aides, Park Technicians, and Park Rangers is described in a package of materials along with applicaticm forms in the Career Services Office. These positions are highly competitive; however, the Park system is especially interested in attracting well* qualified women and members of minority groups.
