OCTOBER 21, 1965 THE TWIG PAGES STIJDEIVT INFORMATION Kappa Nu Sigma Inducts New Members On September 26,1965 the Kappa Nu Sigma Honor Society inducted eight new members: Christine Albro, Sandra Close, Holly Jenkins, Nancy Ratcliff, Su san SKinner, Melanie Stuart, NarKV Ward, and Sally Woodard. Established in 1923, Kappa Nu Sigma serres to promote and reward scholar ship at Meredith College. Kappa Nu Sigma stands for these three Greek words - beauty, intelligence and sound- T.B.W. White We had an excellent turnout for the first T.B.W. meeting but for any of you who did not attend, you missed out on the chance to hear a very interesting and educational program. Marilyn Jean Cal houn, Attorney at Law, was our speaker for the evening. Ms. Calhoun attertded law school at Campbell University. She worked as a partner in a R^eigh law firm befoe opeiting up her own law firm. She has been quite successful, particularly in the area of family law. Ms. Calhoun stressed tt«t law was not limited to the courtroom arxl that it was excellent tiackground for other jobs. She also offered helpful hints to Mere dith students such as lookir>g at your personal goals and deciding what speci fic things you do best, taking advantage of speech courses, and getting exposure to the business world In several areas. Tbe rwxt meeting of T6W will be on Wednesday, October 23rd at 7:30 In room 214 Hants. Our speaker will be Sue Ann Schoonderwoerd who Is a graduate of Meredith and is employed with MONY Financial Services as a financial spe cialist. She will expaiin wt^ a financial special 1st does and howsttegot into this field. Only juniors and seniors are eligitiie for membership, with elec- ttons occurir>g three times during the academic year. Students must have com pleted 9& or more credit hours with a GPA of 3.5 or more on the total hours at tempted, or 75 to 90 credit houi^ with a GPA of 3.6 or more. Graduatlr>g seniors selected in the spring must have a GPA of 3.4 or greater on all hours attempted. Through Kappa Nu Sigma the college administers the Helen Price Scholarship Fund, from which two scholarships are awarded in the freshman and the sopho more classes respectively. This year Kappa Nu Sigma awarded Lisa Powers, a sophomore and Mari Jon Owens, a fresh man, for tt>eir achievements. This is tt>e second year that Lisa has received this award. Dr. Sarah English is sponsor of Kappa Nu Sigma. Light Your Future LIBERAL ARTS CAREER DAY October 28,1985 Masquerade Ball October 18 W by Kimberty Hamlson and Sara ^th Fulford To give students insignt into non-tra- ditixial vocations for liberal arts majors, Meredith College is hosting a Liberal Arts Career Day, Monday, Octotier 2Bth. The day will irKlude a convocation,' vlsitlr>g employers, and a panel discus sion. Cester Delaney, Vice-President of the Chase Manhattan Bank, will speak in Jones Auditorium at 10:00 a.m. on “The Liberal Arts in Business: Ail Swords are Two-Edged.” Mr. Delaney holds a vaiety of degrees irtduding a twchelor's degree in philosophy, a master's degree in classical language and literature, and a master's degree in philosophy of reli gion. Following the keynote address, stu dents will be able to talk with employers and aiumnae on second floor Cate Center until 3:00 p.m. Among the nu merous employers will be representa tives from Amertean Airlines, Triangle Travel, IrK., Branch Banking and Trust, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Visiting alumnae will include ttte 1985-86 Teacher of the Year, Pamela Faison Brewer, and Linda E. Mohr, M.D. of the Raleigh OB-GYN Center.
