PAGE 4 THE TWIG NOVEMBER 4. 1985 Branching Out News From Meredith Christian Association 0. WE APPRECIATE YOU by Connie R. Morrow Meredith is a college of tradition and close frtends. It is a college where the students and faculty can share not only an educational relationship, but also a spiritual relationship. These are just a few of the many aspects which make our school special. The MCA Worship Com mittee has been helpful in allowing these special aspects of Meredith to continue. Wednesday worship is a Meredith tra dition with close interaction between Meredith’s faculty and students. TTie Worship Committee is responsible for each week’s speal^er, special music, worship leader and carillonneur. With Roommate Negotiation Workbook Frederick, Md. (I.P.) — The "Room mate Negotiation Workbook," a step-by- step ap(»'oach to reaching agreements on living together, so that disputes are pre vented and to resolving disagreements-if they do arise, is part of an overall pro- gram.to teach the students practical so cial skills they will need throughout tfieir lives, according to Hood's Director of Counseling Dr. Barliara Engram. Engram, who wrote the Workbook, ex plains that when a disagreement arises, students must use negotiation before re questing a room change from a college dorm counselor. The negotiation training, introduced campus-wide last year, works. The number of mid-year roommate cfianges and requests for [Contmued on Page 6] Karen Cockrell as the Worship Chairper son, the committee has planned a wide variety of worship services in an effort to make worship an experience for every one. For example, so far this year our Meredith faculty lead one service, our irt- temational students lead one service, and we’ve had many other speakers re presenting various organizations as wor ship speakers. Planning a service for every week isn't an easy job; however, our worship committee has been doing an outstanding job this year. Worship Committe - thank you for your hard vrork and dedication. At Win gate College, I^Guire began her first job working with college students as a resi dence counselor. There she was able to put her newly-learned counselling tech niques to use. While McGuire was worting at Wingate, one of the students suggested that she get involved in camp work. For a change, McGuire decided to pursue it. McGuire accepted a position as camp director of Mundo Vista In Asheboro for the North Carolina Wo men's Missionary Union. As camp direc tor, McGuire kept involved with the young college women while Increasing her activity with missions work. Two years later McGuire "got tired of It" (the camp routine) and. wanted to get back to the college setting. Getting back to the college setting was also one of the hardest recoupings for McGuire. After living alone for three years, moving back into a college dorm suite with none of the conveniences of home was a difficult adjsutment. Now having worthed at IVteredith for three years, McGuire confesses, “I'm hardly ever here anyway so I haven’t invested time into m^ing It a home.” A mirror stands against the wall Ijehind her couch and the white cinder blocks remain bleak with no pictures to cover them. McGuire thinks the room “reflects transition, both personally and professionally.” The only thing that seems to be completely In tact Is McGuire herself.
