Challengo’ tragedy causes NASA to do painful soul searching
WASHINGTON — The tragic explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger has caused
NASA, one of the most glamorous of federal bureaucracies, to do some painful soul
searching about how and why the launch of the shuttle ended in the fiery death of the
seven astronauts aboard and destruction of the billion dollar ship. There has been some
speculation as to whether or not NASA had reason to believe that one of the solid
rocket boosters was flawed and that low temperatures may have added to the problem.
The space agency seems headed for rough times as the commission investigating the dis
aster probes these questions.
Johnson & Johnson to stop manufacturing capsules
NEW JERSEY — Because they cannot guarantee their safety, Johnson & Johnson
will abandon over the counter capsule medicines. The decision came after deliberation
when a New York woman died of cyanide poisoning from a Tylenol capsule. Officials
from Johnson & Johnson urged consumers to switch to the caplet or tablet forms of the
drug. Officials said caplets and tablets cannot be tampered with because they are solid
and any poison would break down the medicine.

among women, as a deterrent to crime. Police say the stun gun is popular because Mace
hasn’t proved effective, and self-defense classes take too much time from a student’s
schedule. Nova Technologies, the gun's manufacturer, promotes it as a non-lethal
defense weapon that is easy to use and carry.
