The nets are up, practice has started, and the team’s first game will
be Tuesday, September 14, at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Yes, it is volleyball
season again here at Meredith. And the coaches. Dr. Marie Chamblee
and Dr. Cindy Bross, have high hopes for a prosperous season this year.
Tryouts went well with a good tumout, which was imperative con
sidering four starters graduated leaving only four returning starters.
“Of these four, Melanie Ford is the best defensive player as well as an
excellent hitter,” said Chamblee.
Sandy Blackmon has a strong hand and, according to Chamblee,
will be a very valuable player. Two other returning players are Jennifer
Allen and Tina Rowe who are both strong blockers and hitters as well
as crucial members of the team.
The other members of the team are Tara Faulkner, Sloan Brawley,
Ann King, Laura Watts, Kristin Home, Diane Ftirbes, Kristi Narron,
and manager, Susan Smith.
Most of the incoming women have strong competitive high school
experience which means the team should gel beiier and bcucr as the
season progresses. Thecoaches believe thatdespiif the team’s inexpe
rience, they have excellent potential.

Jade Garden Gets
Thumbs Up
by Beth Saylor
So many restaurants, so little

restaurant to try.
Jade Garden is a Chinese restau

choose from on the menu, and eve

great. Orders are served promptly,
