weekly column in the Herald will
focus on careers as they relate to
ongoing and special services planned
through our office.
CAREER FOCUS: Accounting
According to results from the
past five graduating class follow-up
surveys. Business and Industry
continues to be a career area fre
quently chosen by Meredith gradu
ates. From those completing de
grees in business at Meredith, an
accounting concentration is well-
represented. It seems appropriate,
then, that Peat Marwick, a “Big
Hght” accounting firm, should be
an early recruiter on our campus.
According to the Occupational
Outlook Handbook, employment of
accountants and auditors is expected
to grow faster than the average for

The increased use of computers in
accounting makes computer liter
acy a must to compete in the job
market. When thinking about ac
counting as a career, consider the
varied areas for potential work:

profit organizations, education and
self-employment. Bachelor Degree
candidates can expect salaries aver
aging around $22,000 annually,
depending upon type of employ
ment
