MEREDITH HERALD Vol 5 No. 7 Meredith College, Raleigh, NC 27607 November 7,1989 Eastern Europe A Focus of Meredith Study Abroad by Kim Peeples The Mer^th College Study Abroad I^rogram will include a travel/study exp»i- ence in Eastern Europe May 18 - June 3, 1989. Dr. Sandra Thomas, vice president for student development, will direct the program which will include faculty mem bers: Dr. Carolyn Grubbs, department of History and Ms. Bluma Greenberg, Art History. llie study abroad program promises to be a cultural odyssey of histoiy and natural beauty. It will include the countries of Austria, Hungary, Romania, and Yugosla via. The trip will begin in Vienna with sightseeing tours of the city and visits to nearby villages. It will include a tour to Budapest, Hungary and Clug, Sighishora, Braznov, Bran, Bucharest In Romania, we will be visiting the Black Church and Drac- ula’s castle. The trip will |»xx:eed to Tir- gujiu and Belgrade, the Yugoslavian capi tal. The Yugoslavianpartofthetourwill include Sarajevo, Mostar, and Dubrovnik witti an option to Medjugoi^e. The final portion of the trip will be fi-om Debrovnik to Split, where Aere will be visits to ancient Roman ruins, the Plit- vice Lake District, one of the oldest Slavic cities on the Adriatic Sea, 16 lakes at differ ent levels, along with series of waterfalls. The trip will terminate in Zagreb. The focus of the trip will be history, politics, art history and education. Students may register for an independ ent study credit of three hours with Dr. Carolyn Grubbs. For those who should wish, there will be an add-on tour possibly for six days in the Soviet Union from June 3 - June 11, which will include Moscow and Leningrad. Pre-departure lectures will be offered on five Sundays evenings from 4-7 p.m. be ginning in January. Applications are pres ently being accepted for the travel/study tour. They may be obtained in Dr. Thomas’ office. Register now to reserve space. The cost will be approximately $1,950. Phi Alpha Theta Holds Inductions The Phi Omicron Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta held its fall induction on Monday, Oct. 9, 1989. The new members are as follows; Pamela A.
