Meredith Herald April 18, 2001 Campus News Meredith races to find cure for breast cancer Tracy Sumner Staff Writer Last June, Meredith College hosted the state’s largest 5K road race. And it was all for a good cause. This year, Meredith will again host the Komen North Carolina Triangle Race for the Cure to raise money for breast cancer research, education, screening, and treat ment. Three- fourths of the money raised will stay in the Triangle area for breast health care and education programs. The remaining money will sup port the Komen Foundation's National Grant Program. Over 12,000 runners are expected to show up on the morning of June 9. Participants have the cation of running or walking the course. Dean of Students Ann Glea son is in charge of coordinating a Meredith College team to participate in the event. “It is important that we become more aware of how breast cancer affects our com munity,” she commented. “As a women’s college and host of “As a women’s college and host of the event, we should take more of a role in showing the community how much we care. Housing is available on cam pus for Meredith students who will be attending summer school, working for an intern ship or co-op or working full time on campus. Anyone needing summer housing on campus will be housed in Poteat Residence Hall. Summer school housing information and applications are available in the Office of Residence Life on the second floor of the Park Center. There is no specific deadline for turning in information, but for students who will be attend ing the first summer school session, a[^Hcations should be in by Apr. 30 so that room assignments can be made.
