Fr^m the Mayor: Most citizens are aware that ftur Town receives funds fr^m sources
other than the taxes we all pay on real, and personal property. But does everyone
realize hew much those other sources contribute, how much of the Town's expenses the
take care of and, as a consequence, hew much we benefit from being a town?
In the calendar year 1975 the Tawn collected $5^,683.00 from ad valorem tax levies
(i.e. fram the taxes we pay on real and personal property),bubin addition it re
ceived $46,917.00 from ether sources! Those other sources include (to list a few
but not all) Powell Bill funds for the upkeep of our streets, our share cf* local
sales taxes, receipts from building permits, utilities franchise taxes, privilege
licenses, revenue sharing, etc* all of which produced more than 46^ of the entire
revenue cf the Town,
COMMISSIONERS^ MEETING: The Commissioners met January 8 at the Bogue Banks Country

STREET NUMBERS: Anyone owning a corner lot should indicate his choice of which
street he wishes to use as his address. If yi^u have not indicated your choice by
April 1, the decision will be made by town officials for you. And about street num
bers — have you put your number at the end of your driveway or on your property
where it is visible frem the road? It will be a great help to the Rescue Squad and
Fire Department in case of emergency, not to mention te your guests,
PKS FACTS: There are now 290 houses in PKS, 19 of which are under construction.
Our CIVIL DEFENSE organization headed by Lt, Col, ROBERT O’NEAL is holding a public
meeting on February 11, at 7s30 at the Country Club, Tony Seaman, Jr. and other
members of the Atlantic Beach Rescue Squad will be there to participate in a general
discussiion of rescue squad work. We are all invited, and C5l^nel O'Neal hopes that
a large number of us will be there. He points aut that the Country Club Board feels
that this Civil Defense meeting is important to the community and has offered the
use of its meeting roem. The Civil Defense organization has recently received a
portable resuscitator donated by BILL MACDONALD, At Colonel 0*Neals suggestion, we
^lled NATALIE HILTZ, a member of the Civil Defense organization and a registered
nurse. The resuscitator is now at her house. Its use will be coordinated with the
work of the rescue squad which would call her on her frequency radio, Natalie told
us that a course in Emergency Medical Training will be offered at CTI beginning in
Mar«h, The class will meet two nights a week for three months. People completing
the course will be certified by the State and will be qualified to ride on a rescue
vehicle, Natalie hopes that there will be several Pine Knoll Shores residents
interested in taking this course. This would give us a nucleus of people in Pine
Kn^ll Shores who could go immediately to the scene of an emergency and give aid
until the ambulance arrives. As Natalie pointed out, immediate trained aid, could
sometimes mean the difference between life and death,
