THE VOTE IN THE AUGUST 23 REFERENDUM: Citizens of Pine Knoll Shores, by
majorities of more than three to one in a referendum on August 23» approved
the recommendations to erect a nev/ tovm hall and finance the acquisition of
fire fighting and rescue vehicles and equipment. The vote was almost iden
tical for each of the three propositions: 1^7 for and 4l against the propo
sition to spend in excess of ,?10,000 each for the erection of a town hall
*c^building and attendant facilities and to acquire fire fighting and rescue
vehicles and equipment. On the proposition authorizing not to exceed
S275>000 in public building bonds for construction purposes and the authori
zation to levy taxes to cover principal and interest on these bonds was
approved by 1^9 voters vs 39 no votes. The proposition to authorize not
to exceed 375?000 in public vehicles bonds to acquire the necessary fire
fighting and rescue vehicles and to authorize the levy of taxes to cover
principal and interest on these bonds received 147 yes votes and 39 no votes.
Slightly less than half the registered voters of Pine Knoll Shores turned
out to express themselves on these matters.

Betty Hammon, Fred and Natalie Hiltz, Nancy HcBride, A1 and Jeanne Hiller,
Ed Spader, Chuck Tonkens, and Jack and Winnie Thompson, Randy Fridley,
who completed the course has moved to Morehead. Dick Wansfield completed
everything but the exam v/hich he missed because of surgery,

TION, INC., 9:30 a,m,, Toim Hall: Director Verna Armstrong presented a
package to be distributed to new residents from the Association Board of
Directors. This is intended to familiarize them with the ins and outs of
livj-xig in the confines of the Association and also the joy of living here.
Your cooperation in informing Verna of folks moving in or even starting to
clear their property will be most appreciated.
The work tov/ard v/ater for the tv;o boat basins is progressing in most favorr
able fashion under the committee chairman, Robert McAnaw.
The problem of illegal parking at boat basins and in parks continues.
Please help us keep your parks for you. Remember that p;uest stickers are
good for only one year and this year are punched between the 7 and 8,
Again, the Board of Directors extends a most cordial invitation to you to
attend any of the meetings of the Association - the 2nd Tuesday of cach
month at 9:3Q a,m, at the Tov/n Hall,
The Treasurer stated that 6^% of the assessments have been collected and
suggests that if you have not paid yours yet she v/ill be glad to credit your
account v/ith your check at any time before 5 p.m.
PRAISES FOR PiNE KITOLL SH0Rj;:]S RESIDENTS -- we have had reports that our
citizens rally when there is an emergency, medical or otherwise. Pine Knoll
Shores volunteers at the hospital came in for their share of appreciation,
and so did all the people v/ho offer help at home or with transportation.
It is heart-warming, and it gives each of us a feeling of security to know
v/hat instant help and moral support will be forthcoming should we need it.
A THIRD BRIDGE - Pinned v/ith large "Bridge It” buttons, fifteen residents
from Pine ICnoll Shores, including our Mayor, Ken Haller, and Commissioner
Art Browne were among the Carteret Countians attending the N.C, Department
of Transportation (DOT) meeting in New Bern on August 10« They were appear
ing in support of a pe^-ition for a third bridge to Bogue Banks. This peti
tion was presented to DOT by John ^7ay, Executive Director of the Carteret
County Chamber of Commerce,
All of us who use the Atlantic Beach Causeway on summer weekends are regular
ly reminded that the population explosion on the Banks has created a danger
ous traffic problem which is bound to v/orsen each year. Those v/ishing to
express their views concerning the urgency for a third bridge should i^rrite
