Town hall never looked so beautiful as at the May meeting of the Pine Knoll
Shores Garden Club. The long tables in the board room were heaped with every
variety of roses, irises, shasta and gerbera daisies, various colored carnations
and baby’s breath, accompanied by Boston ferns and other greenery. Members
assembled these flowers and greens into personal flower arrangements in the
small vases that they each had brought to the meeting. These lovely arrangements
were then taken to Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center by our
members and were presented to each patient. In addition, arrangements were
given to Betty Carr and Sonny Cunningham at town hall to thank them for their
support of the Garden Club, and to the Bogue Banks Public Library.

President Susan King reported on her attendance at the Garden Club of North
Carolina’s recent meeting in Chapel Hill, and reminded us that our Garden Club
was recognized with first place awards for the erection of the Blue Star Highway
Memorial Marker at the corner of Highway 58 and Pine Knoll Boulevard at the
state level by the Garden Club of North Carolina, by the Southern Regional Garden
Club and, ultimately, at the national level by the National Garden Club. The Pine
Knoll Shores Garden Club was the only garden club in North Carolina to receive a
national award in 2017.
