BHA Events The Beaufort Historical Association (BHA) is gearing up for the summer with several opportunities to learn more about the history of our area and to participate in various workshops. Living History—Black History Bus Tour. Learn more about the history of Beaufort aboard the vintage English double-decker bus with guide Curtis Oden. Dates are Saturday, July 13, and Wednesday, July 24, at 11 a.m. Tickets are $15. Summer Party. There will be a summer party at the Beaufort Historic Site on Saturday, July 13, from 7 to 11 p.m. Enjoy food by Scarborough Fare Catering, an open bar, live music by the band Night Years, and a silent auction, with the proceeds benefiting the Beaufort Historical Association. North Carolina Maritime Museums Natural Science Curator Keith Rittmaster will discuss his research on local dolphin identification at the Beaufort Historic Sites welcome center on Wednesday, July 17, from 7 to 8 p.m. Reservations are required for this limited-seating presentation, which is free and open to the public. Join in a gender-friendly pine needle basket workshop with instructor Sandy Malone on Thursday, July 25. Participants should bring their enthusiasm and a bag lunch. Space is limited to 10, so reserve your spot early by emailing Denise Finley at bhaeducation@outlook.com or contacting BHA as shown below. I6th Annual Storytelling Festival The 16th annual Storytelling Festival will be held at 10 a.m. on four Wednesdays in July at the Crystal Coast Civic Center at 3505 Arendell Street in Morehead City and on the same days at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Methodist Church at 728 Bogue Loop Road in Bogue. The following professional storytellers will delight children of all ages with their stories: • Wednesday, July 10: Donna Tillman from Greenville, SC. Ms. Tillman seeks to thrill audiences with her dynamic style and share the love of stories and literature with audiences across the globe. • Wednesday, July 17: Jess Willis from Florence, SC. A storyteller at heart, Ms. Willis loves to tell anything from folk and fractured fairy tales to family stories and personal foibles. She believes no matter our age, we all need stories. • Wednesday, July 24: Science Tellers from Hillsborough, NJ. Storytelling and exciting science experiments come together into an unprecedented theatrical experience. • Wednesday, July 31: No Sleeves Magic from Wilmington, NC. Voted best family entertainer for- eight years in a row by Wilmington Parent Magazine, Michael Rosander and his group inspire children—not only in magic and theater but also in life. The Friends of the Bogue Banks Public Library, the Friends of the Carteret County Public Library and the Friends of the Western Carteret Public Library support the Storytelling Festival.
