Power Outage Map. Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative' (CCEC) has an online outage map, which uses data from the Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters, the substation monitoring system and consumer calls and reports to show the location of power outages in the system. In addition, the map will show estimated times for restoration of service. The map, which will update every five minutes during a power outage, can be a valuable tool for co-op members, local governments and emergency management, and law enforcement agencies during wide-spread outages—and will reduce the number of calls to the cooperative call center. Check the online power outage map at outage.carteretcraven.coop on your smart phone or other device connected to Wi-Fi before calling CCEC, but if you experience an outage and it is not shown on the map or the lights come on around you and yours don’t, report it at 247-3107. Recycling for Students. Did you know that Crayola has a program to accept and recycle dried out plastic markers from schools? Through its ColorCycle program, Crayola will accept all brands of plastic markers—including dry erase markers and highlighters—and will even provide a shipping label without cost. Share information about this program with teachers and school administrators so the kids can help the environment in this fun way. Students get excited when they set up boxes in their school to collect the markers, and it’s amazing how much plastic can be kept out of landfills through this program. Those interested can learn more about ColorCycle by visiting crayola. com/colorcycle. aspx and clicking on the FAQsi button.
