Kramer’s Komer It s the best season of the year—duck hunting season. I hope you aU had a great Christmas sea son with family arid loved ones, and here’s look ing forward to another storm-free year in 2022. Change for trash and recycling pickup. By the time you are reading this, we will have transitioned from our long-time service provider to Waste Removal. Hopefully, for most of the property owners here, this will be a seamless transition. For some of you, particularly those who previously contract ed with GFL, there will be a transfer of contract agreements for rental of equip ment. This includes both dumpsters and roUaway carts. You should have received a letter from Waste Removal regarding this. New number for issues with trash and recycling pickup. Effective January 3, please call Waste Removal at 252-499-9710 for aU service issues. No plastic bags in recycling. Please do not put your recycling material into plastic bags. They are not accepted at the recycling processing site. Tonnage costs at the recycling center are much less than at the landfill for trash, and the recy cling center will turn away material in plastic bags. Water main project on Salter Path Road. Last month we sent letters to aU property owners on the south side of the road from approximately 167 Salter Path Road to the Atlantic Beach border. We anticipate starting a project there later this spring. If you own a home there or you are an owner in a multifamily complex and you were unaware of this and have questions, please contact me at manager@ townofpks.com or 252-247-4353. Pine KnoU Shores requires that bags of household garbage be placed in con tainers. Three years ago, the Board of Commissioners took action to require that bags of household garbage be placed in containers and not left on the side of the road in plastic bags. Coyotes are feeding on these bags, and as we deal with the concerns of coyotes in town, one of the most important recommendations from biologists with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission is that we remove food sources for these animals. In support of this, we have a convenience site at town hall for homeowners to drop off household garbage. The photos here were taken by a Pine Knoll Shores police officer. Joint meeting of the Board of Commissioners and Strategic Planning Committee. On January 19 at 2 p.m., there will be a meeting between these two groups to discuss the forthcoming revision to the Pine Knoll Shores Strategic Plan. I think this will be one of the best opportunities to learn what the focus of the town government will be for the next several years. Please look for an email from Town Clerk Charlie Rocci for the webinar link to the meeting. Now is the time to get your hurricane reentry pass. Please see page 27 in this issue of The Shoreline for information on how to get your reentry pass. An alternative method to reach a Pine Knoll Shores police officer for non-emergency situations. Here is a simple guideline for reaching a Pine ECnoll Shores police officer. If you need to ask a question, pass along some informa tion or have some other non-emergency situation, please call 252-726-1911 and ask the attendant to have a Pine Knoll Shores officer call you. The attendant will ask for your number and the nature of the call, and you will receive a call to the number you provide. Please remember that for any situation that actually involves suspected criminal activity, call 911. This remains the most effective and reliable way to quickly have a patrol car dispatched to your home. When deciding which number to call, please consider this: if you need an officer to actually come to your location, or if there is suspected criminal activity involved, always call 911. It is critically important that when a law enforcement officer actually deploys to a scene that he does so only after being centrally dispatched via the 911 system. BHA Event Come to the Beaufort Historic Site to enjoy the largest open house of the year on Sunday, February 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. This year, the Valentine Membership Party, a free event, wUl celebrate the community spirit that has been so evident throughout the pandemic.
