PINE KNOLL SHORES GARDEN Ci.UB By Deb Frisby George Allen Irene Beattie Frank Zeh Holiday celebration for the Garden Club December brought cooler weather and lots of fragrant, pine-scented greenery to our town. Evergreen wreaths were distributed on December 1 by members of the Garden Club, who also put up decorations at town hall. Club members gathered at the public safety building on December 8 to assemble 117 swags and bows, and a group of volunteers placed some of the swags on street signs around town. Another group went to Beaufort where the club continues, for the 5th year, to use swags and wreaths to decorate the Cape Lookout National Seashore Visitors Center (the old Post Office on Front Street) on behalf of the NC Garden Club Association. Ranger Kathleen O’Grady with the National Park Service was at the site to witness.the volunteers’ festive transformation of both the inside and outside of the building. On December 9, a small group gathered at On the Rocks to celebrate long time club member Lana Hathaway since she and her husband, Don, would be moving out of the area before the annual luncheon held on the 15th. Susan King created a picture book of Garden Club memories for Lana. The holiday luncheon held at the Crystal Coast Country Club was part celebration and part service. Members brought wrapped gifts for a “lefty-righty” game, purchased $1 tickets for a 50/50 raffle and gave monetary donations for the Carteret County Domestic Violence Program. Canned goods were collected for Martha’s Mission in Morehead City. Good food (prepared by Chef Scott Stiehl) and good friends to celebrate the season made for a memorable year-end gathering.
