FIRE HYDRANT STUDY The need for additional fire hydrants in Pine Knoll Shores was discussed at the recent meeting of the town commission WILL BE MADS following a request by Ken and Irene Dor emus that a new hydrant be installed close to Teak Court. Chief Foster reported at the meeting that he had made an inspection of the locations of all fire hydrants in town, and stated that some areas, chiefly Loblolly Drive, do not con form with state regulations that hydrants be no further apart than 1000 feet. Mayor Haller requested that Chief Foster, together with persons qualified in the matter, make a further study of the situation and supply the Board with a priority listing of needed fire hydrants. This will, Re,said, provide an orderly approach to^^ the matter and help maintain the "seven” insurance rating which the town now enjoys^B NEW POLICE Richard Del Mese has joined the Pine Knoll Police Department effective immediately. Jack Thompson, Commissioner of Police, OFFICER HIRED said Officer Del Mese succeeds David Brown who had resigned to accept a position as State Information Officer with the State Department of Justice, eastern division. The State’s gain is surely Pine Knoll Shores loss as David makes a name for himself in the enforcement field. Godspeed, David. FROM A few weeks age. Pine Knoll Shores Commissioner Elwood Ratliffe became ill at Bogue Banks Country Club. Members of our Rescue MAYOR HALLER Squad, who were present at the time, rendered on-the-spot assistance. The ambulance was called. Commissioner Ratliffe was taken to Carteret General Hospital for treatment. After a week’s stay he returned home fully recovered. • This incident points up dramatically our dependence on our Rescue Squad and its trained personnel. Had they not been available to respond promptly to this emergency, who knows what the result might have been. I
