KLRE DEPARTMENT STARTS Pine KioU Shores Volunteer Fire Department has initiated
a new training program in order to update the_fire, fighting
NEW TRAININGr PROGRAM skills of the members*' One of the reasons for stepping up
this training program, said 0. K. Foster, fire chief, is
because of the several innovations that have been introduced in fire fighting techniques
and because of the modest recent turnover in personnel.
The training sessions are held every Monday evening at the fire house and at
various locations throughout the town where special problems may exist. The proguaat
covers all aspects of fire fighting including vehicle maintenance, forcible entry,
ladder manipulation, use of breathing apparatus, truck and pumper operation, hose
and hose lays to hydrants, and radio operation.
The initial sessions are conducted by Platoon Captains Joe Trembeczki and
Howard Laws and lieutenants U.oyd Staton and John Eubanks. As each group is trained,
they in turn will train other groups so that in due course every fireman will be
adept at every operation. All members of the fire department will be required to
complete the training in order to remain an active fireman.
There are still openings for firemen, both men and women, in the department.
Chief Foster said, and anyone interested should contact him at 726-8574 or any
Pine Knoll Shores fireman.
