LADIES PLAI^ ^nibers of the Ladies Auxilliary to the Fire Departmeixt held 4 initial discussions aimed at forming groups that would provide FOR FUM'ISN coffee and pastries, or donuts, for firemen and members of .the Rescue Squad v;hen they are engaged in extinguishing fireS| especi^ly in buildings and which require several hoiars of work. The need for SUCll an activity was emphasized during the recent condominum fire where the crews weifG on duty for more them five hours and the night was cold and damp# Plans are expect»ed to be finalized at the next meeting in March. At their February 11 meeting Chief Ed Crawford spoke of the need for better home protection against burglaries and break-ins and showed two films, outlining what householders can do to protect their properties. The program will continue next month with the showing of two more films; the first will demonstrate the types of locks most suitable for doors and windows as well as the tools utilized by burgles in defeating some locks. The second film vdll illustrate the precautions the citizen can take to reverse the dangerous trend that is developing when people "do not want to get involved". The public is invited to attend the meeting which will be held at the Town Hall on Thursday, March 11, at 7 p.m. -THIS jN Any person who formerly vjas associated ivith the Fire Department or Rescue Squad and who still has fire and rescue equipment, including radio monitors, THAT boots, helments, rain coats or other equipment, are requested to turn this equipment into the Town Hall promptly. All of these items, especially the radio monitors, are expensive and there is a need to redistribute these things to active members. Through an oversight in proof reading the last issue of the SHORELINE Noel Yancey who recently moved to Pine Kholl Shores, was credited mth starting to work for the Associated Press in 1035* Now, Noel is a sturdy individual, but more than 900 years vdth the same employer was a little too much, although the AP probably would have Gn.joyed the services of such a capable newsman. Our apologies to Noel for the embarassment of advancing his age into the Guiness Book of Records. The Pine Knoll Shores Fire Department again extends its thanks to the neighbors and to the Rescue Squad for the coffee and pastries that were provided during the recent fire. It was gratefully received.
