On July 19f puppeteer and ventriloquist I-lary Ann Delmar will present a special
program, and on July 24, Jay Bames, a local surfer, will illustrate how to have fun
on a surf board the safe way.
All during July the participating libraries in North Carolina will register
children for the Summer Reading Program. Children are invited to come to the Bogue
Banks Library to register. Suggested books to be read to complete the program should
be concerned with travel, biography, science, history and fairy tales. Certificates
will be awarded to those who read ten books in these areas.
OUR NEW Hope and A1 Baughan live at Loblolly Drive. They come from Columbus,
Ohio, where they had a store, Lombard’s Interiors, dealing in fine furniture
NEIGHBORS Much of it came from North Carolina. Temporarily they lived at the
Breakers while looId.ng around for a place to retire. They started coming
here about twelve years ago. Hope has a sister, Mrs. Dan Fredrick, living in Mtchell
Village. A1 is a beach lover, a spectator sportsman and enjoys tennis. Hope was a
free-lance designer of interiors and still has a business of her om. She is a
volunteer at the Bo^e Banks Library. Her interests, besides interior decorating
are cooking, gardening and children. Hope and A1 had been foster parents for a couple
of years They have three children, a daughter and two sons. The younger son is
teaching math and physics at a nexv university in the Republic of South- Africa.
Yola and Ken Hanan i. recently moved to 111 Beechwood Drive from Chatham, New Jersey.
«is was their 34th trip '.here. They made their first trip in 1972, after reading
out Pine Knoll Shores in the VJall Street Journal. They came to look, not intending to
buy anything, but ended up buying a lot on the first trip. For 15 years Ken had been
editor of^Constructioneer, a heavy construction magazine, and the Md-Atlantic Trucker.
A U. of Mchigan graduate in civil engineering, previously he vTorked in heavy construction
Ken plays the piano, likes sailing, c^oeing, fishing and gardening. He had an interest
in antique cars, and at one time oxmed a 1924 Buick. He plans to join the Rescue Squad.
Yola is a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Tulane University. She retired
recently after teaching first grade in an elementary school in Livingston for 23 years.
When she retired, she was honored vjith 11 parties and a ’’Mrs. Hanan Day”. She was
given an original book written by her students. Former students she had taught came
back for the day. Her favorite hobby is gardening. She also mentioned, ”One of our
interests will be entertaining all the friends who are expecting to visit us.” Both
enjoy square dancing. They have a 14 year old V/elsh terrier-named Morgan.
Ruth and Wally Smith live at 132 Juniper Road. They came from Lansdale, Pa., a
subiirb of Philadelphis. V/ally retired as Vice Presidnet of industrial sales of Globe
Hoist Division of Symington- Wayne Corporation. He enjoys golf, Tood working, malcing"
and refinishing furniture and doing viork around the house. Rath also enjoys golf, plus
swimming, ^nee^e point, gardening and reading. Both play bridge. Their son, Wally-f III,
is a dentist in the Coast Guard with the rank of Commander. He had been stationed at
Ft. I'lacon and nov/ is in Elizabeth City, N. C. A daughter lives in Pennsylvania and
works in the computer division of General Signal. They have three grandchildren.
While their son was stationed in this area, they visited here, liked it and decided to
