Reporting for the Planning Board, Coniinissioner Jerome also once again requested residents to display their house address numbers in a visible location, preferrably on the mail box or mail box post, wherever possible. With the increasing number of new homes in Fine Knoll Shores it has become a problem for the police, fire :md rescue units to locate an address in the event of an emergency. Your street address number may be obtained from the Town Clerk; it is important to remember that your street address is not the same one the post office uses for mail delivery, and these emergency services do not have access to postal box numbers. At the time the town v/as laid out each lot was given a number, which is available at. the tov/n hall. Your cooperation will be appreciated. Availability of these numbers will be discussed at the next meeting and duly reported. He said there presently are kil single family resiaences under construction in Pine Knoll Shores, along with five condominium clusters• Bids on a new fire truck were rejected, Commissioner Johnson reported, and the matter will be further studied. In lieu of this nev; equipment, and to improve fire protection in the town the Board said it would consider the extension of the present v/ater mains and the installation of additional fire hydrants, especially in the area along^^ Oakleaf Drive between the Country Club and Salter Path Road. Commissioner Johnson also reported that local participation in the present Rescue Squad iil-TT training course has been extremel}^ limited v/ith only the police officers taking the course. He urged other citi^^ens to participate in this activity in order to prevent later problems with squad response. If you can join in this very worthv/hile effort, please get in touch v;ith Brenda Cox or Corinne Geer at the tov;n hall. You will be doing yourself and your neighbors a great service, and one that provides its ovm rewards. He further reported the fire department has enlisted three new members and that the department regular training sessions v/ill resume at 3 p.m. on ITondays, under the supervision of the nev/ly appointed training officer, HayiATOod Quinn. Cormnissioner Thompson reported that in July the police ansv/ered kS calls, made 139 inspections of homes v/here the residents v/ere a\/ay and issued 1? traffic tickets. He also reported that the Tov/n had purchased a new police car, to replace the one that was v/orn out, and it would be in service shortly. Finally, at the meeting, Mayor Cleveland announced an ordinance had been approved prohibiting the use of motor vehicles on the beach strand of Pine Knoll Shores, except emergency vehicles and those of commercial fishermen who have a net in their vehicle and who had obtained a permit from the Tov/n of Pine Knoll Shores.
