C. 28512 October, 19^2 Commissioner Jack Thompson, who has been Commissioner of Police, has been appointed Commissioner of the Fire Department. Mr. Thompson, a retired sergeant of police with the New York City Police Department’s special services division, has had broad experience with fire and rescue work, as well as police activities, also will continue to oversee the police department. Also at the meeting of the commissioners, held on October 12, the board accepted the report of the audit company. Neighbors, Neal, Hamlin and Balbier, presented by Paul Hamlin and J. Ipock. The report, which covers the fiscal year 19^1-^2, was favorable and highly complimentary with respect to the town’s accounts. Commissioner Gibson reported that requests for estimates to paint the exterior of the town hall have been mailed to contractors. In addition, pilings under the McNeil Bridge are reported in poor condition and the State will make an inspection of the structure in November. It also was announced that the Garden Club has prepared plans to beautify the east and west sides of Mimosa Boulevard on the town right of way with permission of the town. The responsibility for mowing and maintenance of the area will rest with the Garden Club. Commissioner Gibson also reported that stop signs at Cedar and Cyprus and Oakleaf and Hawthorne have been replaced. Finally, requests for estimates to repair the approach to the McNeil Bridge have been received, and that of Barrus Construction was accepted. The building inspection report for September, presented by Commissioner Jerome, shows building permits for two single family residences have been issued, along with six certificates of occupancy.
