The Town of Pine Knoll Shores now owns various items of medical equipment,
including several pairs of crutches, a cane, and sick room supplies such as bed pans,
emesis basins, wash basins, etc. All of this equipment was donated by residents and
is now available on a no-cost loan basis for anyone to use.
The equipment is in the custody of the Rescue Squad, and may be obtained by
contacting a member of the Squad or by calling Harry Schlimper at 726-1032 (Future
number - 2^?-^66),
The Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club held its regular monthly meeting at town
hall on April 13 with Louise Jolitz presiding. Guest Jackie Lynn and new members
Kate Mangum, Maxine Moeller, Helen Olson and Frances Yancey were welcomed by Mrs,
Jolitz,
Leonora Roberson, project chairman, announced that the town board of
GARDEN commissioners had approved the in-ground watering system for the town hall
CLUB grounds. The installation will begin shortly, Mrs. Roberson also noted
that between 400 and 500 plants as well as 75 white dogwood trees have been
planted in the on-going grounds beautification project of town hall,
Audrey Hoffmeyer reported on the Seashore Council of Garden Clubs' meeting held
April 6 at the N, C, Marine Resources Center, She thanked hostess Ann Ratliffe for
overseeing the serving of refreshments.
Guest speaker was Leah Manning of Nashville, North Carolina assisted by Rena
Hiatt of Rocky Mount, N, C, Mrs, Manning, who operates Sparrow Hill Herb Garden in
Nashville, gave a show and tell demonstration with live herb plants. In addition to
their medicinal and seasoning uses, herbs are effective in the control of insects,
Mrs, Manning said. For example, penny royal grown near doorways will keep mosquitoes
away and tansy will repel flies, "We teach bible scripture through herbs" she said.
The club*s next meeting will be at the town hall on May 11 beginning at 9:30 a,m,

The Town has asked that we publish how important it is for those people living
in the West end of our town, particularly Maritime Place, to arrange to have their
trash out on pickup days by 7s 15 a-*111, inasmuch as the truck starts at those locations
at that hour. The truck is starting earlier pickups because the landfill is now on
summer hours and closes at 4:30 p,m.
