Page -6- BiUie Hathome announced that PKS Garden Club will co-sponsor a filM series on **GPBat American Life Styles" with the Bogiie Banks library. The first of these will fea~ ture the Teddy Roosevelt family and Sagamore Hill and will be presented on October 26 at 2 p.m. at the Marine Resources auditorium. It is open to the public. Ms. Anne Johnson, Superintendant of Ubraries for Carteret County, will speak briefly preceding the film. Louise Jolitz reported on the District 11 meeting of the Garden Clubs of North Carolina, Inc., which the PKS club will host on October 18 at Bogue Banks Country Club. About 80 clubs from 14 counties will be represented and several state officers will attend. All members were urged to contribute food, plants, and craft items to the Mini- Bazaar Which Dorothy Fanagakos and Lenora Roberson are co-oi^inating. Maxine Moeller is receiving reservations through October 8, with a cut off of 150 persons. Mrs. Jolitz and Mrs. Doremus will be the official club delegates and will act as Chairperson and co- Chairperson, respectively. Following the adjournment of the business meeting, Mrs, Roberson introduced Jim Davis of Rumley's Plant and Flower Shop in Beaufort, Mr, Davis spoke on proper selection and care of houseplants. He discussed light, humidity, fertilizers, potting mediums, com mon insect problems and general care, JOAN DAWSON ------ oOo ------ A number of people in Pine Knoll Shores are reporting disappointing results with cxape myrtle plants they have purchased through the Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club dxiring FIRST AID FOR ongoing town beautification project. The extreme heat and dryness of this summer is very hasion first year or even second year plants, CRAPS MYRTLE If some of your plants appear to be nearly dead, they may still revive with proper treatment. Lift the plants and cut back about one-third on roots and folia^^ Replant them in pots in a mixture of peat and topsoil and put in a sheltered location on the south side of your hoiise for the winter. Keep very well watered and replant them in early spring - late in Febaniary is a good time. Remember to continue to water heavily those plants still in your yard. Even though the plants are established, they need lots ^ of water. ------ oOo ------ Members of the Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club have designated Wednesday, September 28, ae weeding and clean-up day of the Town Hall grounds. All garden clubbers, their spouses, SOS - WEEDBRS ^‘^®^ds, and neighbors are invited to come at 9 a.m, and help maintain the plantings and landscapting which have done so much to beautify our Town NEEDED Hall, A very few members (Erma Johnson gets a special thank you) have done a lion's share of the work in caring for these plantings. Come and do your part! Please bring yo\ir own gardening gloves, hand tools, and a container for the trash and weeds you collect. Ruth and Jim Smith have just moved to Pine Knoll Shores, They are presently living at 281 Oakleaf Drive but will move to their own home on the golf course when it is built. Building houses is their favorite activity. They have done it a few times before and they OUR NEW to do a lot of the work themselves, Ruth, particularly, has done every- thing from laying tiles to hanging wallpaper. She also does upholstery, makes NEIGHBORS slipcovers and drapes.
