HORRIQANE EMERGraCY PROGEDURES FOR THE PINE KNOLL SHDRES GENERAL PUBLIC !•' Readiness Conditions and Actions to be taken. (The Conditions will be announced over radio and television channels by the National Weather service.) CONDmON 3: HURRICANE WATCH a* Plan for evacuation. (Evacuation will be announced simultaneously by all Bogue Banks Communities 18 to 36 hours before anticipated landfall.) b. Notify Town Hall (247-4353) of invalids or other persons requiring evacuation assistance. These persons will be evacuated immediately to prepared shelters by ambulance or other town vehicles. Bring bedding and personal medicines. CONDITION 2: HURRICANE WARNING a. listen for evacuation order over radio and television channels. Police will cruise town streets and issue evacuation order by loud speaker. Bie PK5 Civil Preparedness organization will notify individual residences. b. Rrepare to turn off electricity at main ;)unction box, and water at valve on line from street main c. Everyone should evacuate; however, those Tidio will not evac\iate must prepare a paper showing their names and address and the name, address and telej^ne number of their **Next of Kin”. This paper must be given to the police prior to the evacuation order. d. Persons who evacuate RVs and trailers should do so immediately. 15iey will not be permitted to cross the bridges when winds are higher, nor will they be permitted to reenter Bogue Banks diiring the crisis. CONDITION 1: EVACUATim. a. Lock up and depart immediately upon evacuation announcement. Do not panic. There will be enou^ time for everyone to reach shelter on the mainland. Evacuation 75 miles or more inland is recommended. b. Shracuation routes: (1) Persons located east of the Whaler Inn go east on NC58 (Salter Path Road). Use Atlantic Beach Bridge. (2) Persons located west of the Whaler Inn go west on NC 5^, use Bnerald Isle Bridge. c. Evacuation Shelters: (1) Atlantic Beach Bridge evacuees may use these shelters: • West Carteret Hi^ School - ^ mile west of US 70 on Country Club Rd. • Senior Citizen's Center - Morehead City, I6OO Fisher St., 2 blocks north of Arendell St. at l6th st. • Morehead Middle School - Morehead City, near Mor^ead Plaza, on Country Club Blvd., i mile north of Bridges Street. • Morehead Elementary School - 1108 Bridges St., 1 block north of Arendell St. at 11th St. • Newport Schools, Havelock and points west. (2) anerald Isle Bridge evacuees may \ise these shelters: • White Oak Elementary School - on NC 24, i mile east of traffic light at junction of NC 58 and NC 24* • Use NC 58 and US 17 to Maysville, New Bern, and Kinston. • Do not attempt to use NC 24 to Morehead City or Swansboro. Low lying areas will probably be flooded.
