VOLUME VI — Number 11 November 1985

On Election Day, November 5th, 405 voters out of the total of over 700 registered
turned out to elect three new members to the Board. Most votes went to Aubrey Johnson
who brings S8 years of experience to the job — IB as city manager in Portsmouth, Va.
and 3 as commissioner in Pine Knoll Shores to which post he had been appointed to serve
an unexpired term in 1973. Others were; Dan Sotir, part owner of the
THFEE NEW Jim Dandy Covenience stores, presently an EMT and formerly chief of the
rescue squad with a long record of volunteer service for the Town; and
COMMISSIONERS John Shedd, retired bank president, presently serving on the Board of
Directors of the Pine Knoll Association, and Deputy Director of the
PI P’CTED Civil Preparedness Commission and a member of the Planning Board.

presided.

dential quality of the community with business limited to retail establishments serving
the local residents. Sotir expressed the same belief in strict zoning and maintaining
the residential character — the basis of his choice of Pine Knoll Shores as the place
to raise his family. He felt that he could also offer a degree of youth with its
attendant new ideas and points of view, to service on the Board. Shedd outlined his
background in banking, calling himself a "generalist" which indeed seemed to be the case,
as he outlined both business and community responsibilities. He said that he was im
pressed with the way the Town had been developed and that he wanted to help continue what
had been started.
Indeed, all five candidates were impressive, making the choice for the voters a
difficult one. A few had questions ranging from what can be done about mosquitoes to
