EMERGENCY NUMBERS CHANGE
Please note that it is no longer necessary—or even possible—to dial "8" when
calling a Beaufort number. Therefore we suggest you cross out the "8" on your emergency
number stickers as we have crossed them off the mast head. If, out of habit, you should
use the "8" you will get a recording saying that your call has not gone through.
HURRICANE AWARENESS INFORMATION
Attached to this issue of Shore Line you will find information about what to do if
a hurricane thireatens. We suggest you detach it and keep it handy for reference. The
orientation meeting held Thursday, June 12th, contained this information.

COMMISSIONERS HOLD PUBLIC HEARING
Prior to their regular meeting on June 10th a public hearing was held by the com
missioners to consider the proposed ordinances changing the minimum house size and
requiring permit and Community Appearance inspection of bulkhead repairs exceeding $100.
in cost.
There was no comment on the proposed raising of the minimum house size for non
waterfront lots to 1350 square feet from the 1000 sq. ft. presently in effect. Clyde Lynn,
member of the Planning Board, reported that extensive study had been made and it was found
that there was no conflict with other ordinances dealing with setback, etc. Ed Olsen had
made a study of houses built in the last two years and found that the area averaged 1610
sq. ft., with only four below 1350. This seems to indicate the owners themselves found
the large size desirable.
Concerning bulkhead repairs there were several comments from the floor. There seemed
to be general agreement that some repairs were unsightly but there was also a plea to see
that repairs were made expeditiously since delays can mean that excessive erosion results.
It was observed that it is difficult to find someone to make these repairs. Standards
should be established and possibly a plan to do the repairs and assess the individual
owners.
