The Sliore Line wishes to acknowledge its indebtedness to GEORGE *
EASTLAND, who died November 1, 1986. Publication of the Shore Line *
was begun in 1973, but was discontinued in June of 1978. For more *
than a year thereafter there was no town newsletter, but in *
September, 1979 it was reactivated by the Commissioners and George *
Eastland undertook the difficult and time-consuming job as Editor. *
He continued to carry that burden through 1983, firmly establishing *
the Shore Line as the fixture it has remained. *

Shore Line remembers and applauds the fine job George did, as *
twell as the sacrifices he made in order to perform his duties to the *
very best of his ability. It is altogether fitting that such ser- *
vice to our Town be thankfully recalled as we remember George as one *
* who gave cheerfully of his time and effort in the best tradition of *
* the true volunteer.
PUBLIC HEARING HELD
The hearing was held to consider three proposed zoning changes which had been
recommended by the Planning Board. The first concerned the Roosevelt property on the west
side of Pine Knoll Boulevard now zoned C-2 to C-6. If re-zoned to C-6 the Roosevelts
would contract for a waste treatment plant which could service not only Beacon's Reach but
all properties on Pine Knoll Boulevard, the proposed shopping center, Ramada Inn and
others. In preparation for this request conferences have been held with the state en
vironmental authorities and tentative approval been given. Such a plant was considered
desirable since it would eliminate the need for several individual units which are more
difficult to operate and maintain. There would be no off-site impact in waste water
disposal.
