« SHORE LINE Published by The Town of Pine Knoll Shores In The Interests Of Its Citizens Town Hall: 247-4353 Emergency Phones: Police: 728-3772 Fire & Rescue: 728-4111 VOLUME VIII - Number 1 Mary Korff, Editor January 1987 CHRISTMAS IN PINE KNOLL SHORES - 1986 Christmas in Pino Knoll Shores is always marked by the departure of many to be with family but also the welcoming of family members from out of town. This year was no exception and the weather obliged with good traveling weather for all hands. It officially began with the Town parade on December 22nd. The route was published in the Shore Line but there was no mistaking that something was coming as the sirens blared and Christmas carols rang out over the amplifiers. But sounds were sometimes deceiving. Some people were tricked into thinking that the parade had already gone by while othersran out to see it and had to wait so long they got cold and went in. For those who hit it right it was a spectacle, indeed. The lights of the lead police car looked very gay and Christmasy—not a bit the way they look when you watch their approach in the rear view mirror. Next came the Chiei • in the big fire engine, then the small engine replete with Santa and his elves. Finally last but not least, came the ambulance. We waved and waved in acknowledgment of the "Merry Christmas" wished to all the spectators. On the 23rd the To\m Hall was decked out with its Christmas decorations, prettier than ever this year. Shell Blanchard had made a Santa of gum drops which caught every body's eye. The refreshment table was laden with goodies, each one more appetizing than the next, and Commissioners' wives dipped the punch. We came away with the feeling that Christmas had come. On the 24th it was wet and blustery so the luminaria was postponed to Christmas night. Boats paraded through the canals - some of them showing holiday lights. Whereas there were many stretches of darkness, others made up for it with impressive displays. This was especially noticeable in the courts. Hall Haven, always lighted by Ed Crumley in former years, was brighter than ever, as many pitched in to make it a fitting memorial to him.
