Page -2- The Land Use Update was further discussed in lieu of the recommendation of the Town Attorney, Ken Kirkman explained that the Plan is meant to be a planning tool and does not preempt the zoning regulations etc. of the town and had recommended that the language of some parts be changed with that in mind. It was decided that the commis sioners were not ready for approval as yet and a special meeting will be set up after the work session, if necessary, to meet the state deadline. Final plat approval was given Forest Dunes Sub-division, Beacons Reach, as per Planning Board recommendation. Other commissioner reports reflected more or less business as usual. However, John Shedd called attention to the painting in the lobby, custom made by Jacque Lynn to fit the spot, which has enhanced the whole area. Do take the time to enjoy it the next time you are in the Town Hall. He also recognized the major contribution to the landscaping which Erma Johnson has been so diligent in providing. We are indeed grateful to the many talented people in this town who contribute so much to its attractiveness. Mayor Hanan announced that there is a movement underway to create a 911 emergency service to the county. This is in its earliest stages but is felt by many to be a very important benefit if it can be worked out. --------- oOo --------- PLANNING BOARD Some of the actions taken by the Planning Board at their last meeting have already been reported in the Commissioners' meeting. Other activity included consideration of a policy statement for the town to use to assure that construction be completed within a reasonable length of time. Joe Condra, who was appointed to the Board to fill the unexpired term of Grant Roper, was sworn in andwelcomed. COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION The members of the Community Appearance Commission met with the Commissioners, members of the Architectural Control Committees and a representative of the Home Builders Association on May 27. The purpose of this special work session was to find ways to expedite the processing of building permits, and to eliminate any duplication which might slow down the process. It was agreed by all concerned that it is important to have full information on the plans when submitted since delay sometimes results when plans are returned for clarification. Many other suggestions were discussed and will be imple mented if feasible. The Annual Report of the Commission which had been sulanitted to the Commissioners in May was reviewed at this time. BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT The hearing regarding the ocean front overlook of the Brody house which had been continued in May was resolved without further hearing.
