SEA TORTLES BUSY
So far there are seven nests located in Pine Knoll Shores and this has kept the
turtle watchers busy! One turtle nested far up the dune and Aquarium officials Gail Finer
and Cathy Mitchell brought along some of the "Sea Monsters" who were a big help in re
planting the grass, smoothing and marking the site. Sea Monsters are young people who
have signed up for three mornings a week to learn about the marine environment.
Chandler Garland from Atlanta, Brandon Berry from Rocky Mount and Daniel Marqolis from
Raleigh had signed up for this activity while vacationing in Pine Knoll Shores. They had
lots of good questions to ask as they willingly did the scrambling in the soft sand the
job required.
Two other nests had to be moved. One was too low on the beach and threatened by
high tides while another was in the line of heavy traffic. This is a big operation.
Clearly there are more volunteers needed, young and agile, who could help out on the
weekends when Aquarium staff is depleted.

ANCIENT MARINERS
It's not too soon to think about the bowling season. If you like to bowl that's all
you need to join the group which bowls in Jacksonville on Mondays during the winter. You
don't need a high average. All you need is the desire to have an outing, join some of
your fellow residents and get a little exercise in the bargain. There are plenty of
openings for women regulars and a place on the substitute list is guaranteed both men and
wcMtien if the teams are full. Call President Marty Hare [725-1829] or Secretary Dot Herbst
[247-2879] and get your name on the lists.
