BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
flp A request for variance to the setback requirement of driveways at five feet frcan
'the property line was denied at the hearing held on October 6th.
The new members of the board, Willard Granger, George Falkenberg, and re-appointed
Liz Britton and Robert Armstrong, were sworn in by Mayor Hanan. Officers for the
coming year were elected. They are: Chairman, Mary Korff; Vice-chairman, Bill Bosse;
and Secretary, Corinne Geer.
PLANNING BOARD
At their September meeting the Planning Board spent most of its time on the request
for final approval of lots 1, 2, 3 or Fairway Subdivision. An engineering firm had
produced a plan for drainage of these lots which was given preliminary approval in 1985.
Subsequently, several interested parties, including representatives of Bogue Banks
Country Club, had agreed on an alteration of that plan but this was never formally
approved. The developer, Robert Youngblood, and his attorney were requesting this be
approved. The Board gave six points which would have to be satisfied before it could
approve the alternate plan. For this a profile [Topo] and a set of plans must be sub
mitted to the Planning Board. Otherwise the original engineering plan must be used.
Godfrey Zumbach was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board.
Jack Green reported that the test wells set up by the Environmental Commission to
measure effects of septic tanks and rainfall on ground water have been analysed and no
significant impact on the quality of the ground water was found.
Members are working on the effect of the new law concerning mobile hcsnes on our
zoning laws; the need to regulate fuel storage tanks, measurement of building heights,
^^lowable use of setbacks, and the hazards resulting from deteriorating docks and
^P.lings along the sound.
COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION
At the September 15th meeting Mayor Hanan swore in the new members of the CAC;
Erma Johnson, Lois Jean O'Keefe, Fred McCall and Audrey Hoffmeyer; and reappointed
members: Hoot Gibson and Ann Hitch. Members then elected Hoot Gibson Chairman of the
commission.
It was decided that only one monthly meeting, the first Wednesday of the month at
2:00 p.m. be scheduled. A second meeting could be called as a special meeting if
necessary.
HOUSE NUMBERS
The Planning Board has been trying to prepare an enforcible ordinance regarding
clear identification of houses. As yet we do not have one but an ad placed in a recent
issue of the New-Times by Your Local Fire Department was very impressive. We are
quoting it here in case you missed seeing it.
WE CAN'T HELP YOU IF WE CAN»T FIND YOU
Post address numbers clearly on your
house and mailbox.
Every second counts during a fire or other emergency. Valuable time
can be lost if your address number is not clearly posted where fire
fighters can see it.
* Post your address number at the front of your house
where it is clearly visible from the street.
* If you have a curbside mailbox, place reflecting address
numbers on this as well.
