COMMISSIONERS MEET
The May meeting of the Board of Commissioners was well attended by persons interested
in the business at hand. Business on the agenda included a report from the committee
on dredging and recommendations from the Planning Board and the Community Appearance Com
mission.
Commissioner Johnson reported 78% of revenues collected and 65% of expenditures dis
pensed to date. Taxes are 99% collected. He presented a resolution allowing for the
sale of the telephone equipment recently replaced.
Corinne Geer, Budget Officer, presented the budget which will be available to the
public at the Town Hall from now until the budget hearing June 14th. It calls for a rate
of .19 per 100 of valuation, unchanged from last year.
Commissioner Roderick asked Dick Mansfield to read the report on dredging the channel
•in the Sound in the area of the Sullivan residence. Dick and Duncan Dawkins had prepared
this report. Subsequently the Commissioners voted to proceed with applications for
dredging permits, disposal of the spoils and to bear the expense of the project even
though the Town does not have, nor will it acknowledge, any responsibility for these
channels now or in the future. It is taking these measures in the interest of its
citizens.
Commissioner Shedd recommended the final approval of Egret Lake Phase 2 as recommended
by the Planning Board. He also recommended preliminary approval of Forest Dunes Phase 2
and Fiddlers Ridge, Lots 1-11. This was voted. He gave the Building Inspector's report
for April. There were no commercial or residential permits issued, only miscellaneous
permits for property improvements.
Rescue Squad had 4 calls in April, Commissioner Sotir reported. They had held
elections and asked that the Commissioners approved their selection of Chuck Zaminer as
Chief and Jerry Michaels as Assistant Chief. This was done.
