• # Page -4- Commissioners had been elected and Jim Redfield had been chosen from among them to be the first mayor. It was necessary to create a Planning Board, a Board of Adjustment [one board did both, at first]; establish a police department, set a budget, arrange for fire protection, appoint a town clerk, a building inspector, and a town attorney. All these things we take for granted now but took a lot of thought at that time. Experienced or no, they did a commendable job—particularly in the preparation of the zoning ordinance, which document has done so much to make Pine Knoll shores a desir able place to live! --------- oOo --------- OUR NEW NEIGHBORS Today I met with Peggy and Jim Anderson, our new neighbors at Westport in Beacon's Reach. Right away I have to tell you I had a great time! They are both artists, and as you can imagine, my interest was immediate. Jim and Peggy met when they were attending art school in New York. They both went into art professions after graduating. Peggy worked for Norcross greeting cards and Jim was Art Director of the advertising agency of Ogilvey and Mather in New York. He retired after 35 years with that agency. They have three sons - John, Richard and James and four grandchildren - all living on Long Island - but they come to visit often. Peggy and Jim were looking with Peggy's sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Ed Smith of McGinnis Point, for a place to retire, they looked all around Morehead City and finally decided, like the rest of us. Pine Knoll Shores was where they wanted to live. They both like traveling, bicycling, walking on the beach and bowling, but Jim's favorite thing is golf and Peggy is taking it up. Of course, they both like painting and they have many beautiful paintings, some of theirs and some of others. A big ^ interest Jim has is helping manage a Little League team in Morehead City — watch for ^ the Oilers - they are sure to be winners. Jim and Peggy really love it here. They are happy, enthusiastic, warm and friendly. They both enjoy life here in our great town, and meeting and getting to know them was a pleasure for me and will be for you, also. JACQUE LYWN What a pleasure it is to meet new residents of Pine Knoll Shores, who are so enthusiastic about our town, its people, the Country Club, the beaches, even the weather. Dan and Put Nuzzi fit that description to a "tee". After hearing about Bogue Banks from friends, who had already bought property here, they visited the area and quickly made up their minds to buy a home, moving last October from Cedar Grove, New Jersey to 105 Poplar Court. Dan was a police lieutenant for the Port of New York Authority for many years. When he retired in 1971, he still wanted to continue working and was in the restaurant business in Little Falls, New Jersey until last summer. But he now finds he is greatly enjoying his retirement in North Carolina, especially the opportunity to play golf on our "challenging course". Pat, who grew up in Texas, was a teacher in both high schools and a business college. She,thinks it's great these days to have the freedom to pursue many activities she did not have time for, while teaching and bringing up three children. Two daughters and a son are now married with homes of their own in Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, and their first grandchild was born last year. Pat is learning to play golf, has joined^ the Wanen's Club, and is about to become a member of the Garden Club. V
