December shows no residential or cornmercial permits. There were 3 miscellaneous permits
issued and 2 certificates of occupancy.
•He then asked Fred Fulcher to explain that the house on the corner of Mimosa and
Hawthorne, in spite of its appearance and dual ownership is'not a duplex. There is but
one meter for utilities, a stipulation in the state building codes making it a single
family dwelling.
Commissioner Hasulak reported only 4 rescue calls and 1 fire call in December. Rescue
is considering the purchase of a four-wheel drive vehicle needed in snow emergencies like
the one just past and for beach rescue at such time as we get beach access. It will take
up to 90 days to get it.
Commissioner Gibson read a letter from Morgan Hammer commending the police in general
and Officer McAllister in particular for the assistance rendered to him when he had an
accident on Willow Road.
Gibson commended Chief Crawford and the Police Force for their around-the-clock
surveillance during the snow emergency.
The monthly report for police showed 94 calls and 385 house checks in December. There
were 2 larcenies—one of them unsecured. He also gave the year's figures which included
1717 calls answered, 2805 house checks, 16 B & E, 40 larcenies, 17 of them unsecured
[outside]. Police traveled 97,517 miles during the year—the equivalent of three trips
to San Francisco, Gibson said.
Mayor Hanan announced that there were still two people who have not approved the action
necessary to implement the flood control plan. One has indicated that it will.be given.
Since this phase is so near completion the Commissioners voted to proceed with the adver
tising for bids
In regard to the water company's proposed increase, it was felt that the hearing pro-
^^ess set up [there will be one heieon February 22 at 7 p.m.] is not enough to protect our
^^nterests in this matter. Since both Brandywine and Atlantic Beach also wish to make
strong ODjections to this raise it was voted to go along with them in the hiring of an
attorney who specializes in that area to represent us. Besides that the Mayor is writing
to our representatives and senators to take a formal position against this increase and
participate in the action to prevent it.
It was further agreed by the Commissioners that we should have an ordinance that will
limit the time the company can make the non-conforming use of the private home for their
office. Ken Kirkman will draft up a possible ordinance for the Planning Board to study
and make recommendations for action.
Complaints about the property on Willow Road which has yet not been approved by PIKSCo
and against which the Association has taken legal action, were acknowledged and Commis
sioners were updated by the Building Inspector and the Town Attorney.
Complaints about speeders on Oakleaf Drive and vandalism which has gone undetected
were voiced. Chief Crawford responded with an account of what is being done about these
situations.
The Planning Board and The Community Appearance Commission did not meet because of
the holidays.
