[Ord. 7/5/78, A2, S3] RECYCLING UPDATE PKS recycling center is busier than ever as more of us stop "throwing it all away" and carry our papers, bottles and cans to To'im Hall. How about the rest of you? It does make you feel good to know you're doing your own little bit to help the environment. Good news: The new paper container has sliding doors on its side, making it easier to get your papers inside. And, in case you missed the article in the News-Times, you no longer need to separate your newspapers, magazines and boxes. Celotex Roofing is buying all of them, thereby both making it easier for us and providing a steady outlet. Also— due soon to make the area more attractive: a movable fence made of cedar. Reminders: Glass containers need to have lids and plastic or metal rims removed, and must be separated by color. If there's only a trace of color, it's colored, not clear. It is important to recycle glass, as it's estimated to take hundreds of years to disin tegrate. And keep the aluminum cans coming—they can be crushed or whole. Please don't throw in Pepsi products nor food cans, as they're not aluminum. Hoped for, but probably at least a year away, are outlets for recycling plastics. While w-e wait, let's all be conscious of the amount of plastic trash we generate [as well as all of our other trash]. Sure, plastic is lightweight, inexpensive, and very handy.
