Commissioner Johnson reported that 84+% of revenues has been collected and 60+% of expenditures made so far in this fiscal year. There are 27 tax bills outstanding and he asked the Board to approve the advertising of tax liens on April 19th. This was granted. Commissioner Roderick had no report on the Planning Board because they did not have a quorum and therefore did not meet in February. The Building Inspector's report indicated no residential and no commercial permits issued. There were 9 miscellaneous permits and 2 certificates of occupancy. Mayor Hanan announced the main Water Company rate increase hearing will be held in Raleigh on March 20th. Bids for the construction of the drainage project have been advertised and will be opened April 10 at 10 a.m. See below for information about the tussock moth infestation expected. The new library furnishings are in place thanks to a work party assembled last week. THERE IS URGENT NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP MOVE THE BOOKS AND MAGAZINES. See below. A request for financial assistance in the legal action being taken by the PiKSCo property owners association was referred to the town attorney for recommendation. As a result of the public hearing held in Morehead City concerning plans for thorough fare management there was concern that these included plans to construct a third bridge across the sound. Commissioners requested the Mayor to write a letter to the DOT stating their position as being OPPOSED to a third bridge—a strong letter. NEEDED 3 and 1/2 HOURS The week of april 1 is the week books and magazines will be moved from the Aquarium Library to the new Bogue Banks Library on Salter Path Road. We need volunteers to help load book carts, place them in a special truck and unload them at the new facility. No heavy lifting or pushing is required. Four volunteers will be needed for each morning and each afternoon shift for the four or five days required to complete the move. WATER RATE HEARING There was certainly a feeling of deja vu as we listened to all the testimony from customers of the Carolina Water Co. who were protesting the raise in rates at the hearing held in the Town Hall on February 22nd. So much of what was said was also said at the rate increase hearing held just a year and a half ago. One customer told me that it was all a waste of time. They would get their rate increase—in fact they may already have it—at least in their books. Indeed, the officials of the company, with their smiling faces, did appear to be Ldent, but indulgent of was foremost in their minds. confident, but indulgent of the customers who wished to speak.
