GOOD NEWS ON 1990-91 BUDGET
Prior to the regularly scheduled June monthly Ccnranissioners meeting a public hearing
was held to discuss the proposed Town Budget for Fiscal Year 1990-91. Public conments
were noticeably slight, perhaps due to the proposed reduction in the tax rate for the
upcoming fiscal year. Due to a new evaluation figure of $263/979,000. and an overall
budget figure of $814,458 which is $20,454 less than budgeted for fiscal year 1989-90.
The new tax rate that was voted on and approved was reduced frcxn .13 to .10 per hundred
dollars of evaluation. This reduction is a direct reflection of the conservative fiscal
policies of the operation of our Town by those responsible. The Shore Line wishes to
congratulate all those involved particularly Ccxnmissioner Johnson and Corinne Geer for
their efforts.
On the same subject, the Government Finance Officers Association awarded to the
Town of Pine Knoll Shores, a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial
• reporting. The award was presented to Town Clerk/Finance Officer Corinne Webb Geer
for her efforts on behalf of the Town. Congratulations Corinne and Ccxnmissioner Johnson!!
COMMISSIONERS MEET
All Ccmimissioners being present, the monthly meeting began with Commissioner Blan
chard's report. Mr. Blanchard proposed a motion to accept the Waste Industries contract
for refuse collection. This was necessary to reflect the updated hcxtie count of 893
locations. Commissioner Blanchard requested approval to hire an engineering firm to
study all low lying areas of Town where water collects after a heavy downpour. Blanchard
wishes to thank Bob Manion for his help on identifying problems relating to standing
vrater that does not drain properly.
Commissioner Gibson reported that all of the town Police Officers have been recerti
fied in self defense tactics. He also requested a modification of the No Smoking ban
at Town Hall to exclude the Police Department's office during the hours of 6 p.m. to
7 a.m. The Commissioners voted to grant a trial approval of the request.
