Page -2- Conmissioner Hasulak cited 7 rescue squad calls and no fire calls for the month of May. He also pointed out that June is the beginning of hurricane season along the Eastern coast. He urged all residents not to be lulled with a false sense of security after Hurricane Hugo spared our area. Eastern Carolina is vulnerable to storm damage that can occur at any time. SO BE PREPARED. He also asked that those in need of re entry cards should obtain them at the Town Hall. Ccanmissioner Johnson reported that 96.8% of revenues have been collected as of May 31/ and the proposed budget for fiscal year 1990-91 will reflect a reduction from .13 to .10 per hundred in assessed evaluation. Commissioner Roderick stated that the Planning Board questioned the number of signs that the Wachovia Bank was installing at their new location at Pine Knoll Village. The Bank reduced the number frcxn four to the allowable three. AlsO/ he has instructed the Police Department to issue citations to trucks that do not have covers over their loads to prevent refuse from falling onto our streets. Mayor Hanan discussed the status of the Drainage Project. Requests for easements have gone out and he hopes to have all returned by June 30th. He also indicated that there is hope that the Water Company rate increase request will not be approved, but that a lesser amount of increase will be granted. A Task Force has been formed to study the possibility of dredging the channels outside the entrances to the Town Canal. Mayor Hanan read the response from Von Oeson Associates to the request of the Pine Knoll Association for a certification that the water run-off from the Drainage Project would not harm the Canal. Von Oeson's response centered on the fact that the project was designed to eliminate water buildup in town areas and that as such, met all the con ditions of the various State Agencies. And finally, a Public Hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. July 12th at the Duke Marinej Laboratory, to discuss the Waste Water Environmental Statement. PLANNING BOARD The Planning Board of the Town of Pine Knoll Shores met Wednesday, May 23, 1990 in the Town Hall. Commissioner Roderick reported that during April the Building Inspector issued four single family building permits, eleven miscellaneous permits and three certificates of occupancy. Ccxnmissioner Roderick reported that following the Evans law suit the Town Attorney^ wished the Planning Board to look at certain residential requirements of the Zoning Ordi nance in relation to allowable uses in setbacks and definitions of building and structure. Mayor Hanan refined the request by asking for a list of allowable uses in setbacks such as steps and walkways, and specific clarification of definitions which address buildings and structures. Use of landscape timbers and other landscaping material was mentioned. Chairman McCormick asked members to review the Zoning Ordinance and at the June meeting be prepared to present a list of allowable uses and other suggestions to help remedy any ambiguity which might exist in the Zoning Ordinance now. Chairman McCormick noted that before the Board of Ccxtimissioners would grant final approval to Live Oak Forest the streets had to be named for bushes, trees or shrubs as is the policy of the town. The streets are now Fern and Live Oak Court. Lois Jean O'Keefe reported that Chairman Fred McCall has appointed Margery "^rney and Erma Johnson to a committee to prepare guidelines for ocean front tree trimming. .
