Page -3- The Rescue workers took blood pressures. The EMT's doing it looked very busy all the time. The ladies of the Firemen's Auxiliary were out in force with their homemade cookies and delicious punch. Indeed, it was hard for Captain Gallo to lure them away from the table for his demonstration. Chances are they have made us a few pounds heavier. Oh well. It only happens once a year. The Auxiliary still have chimney fire extinguishers for sale for $8 each. Have your chimney swept once a year but keep one of these on hand just the same. It has saved more than one chimney fire in Pine Knoll Shores, Call Vern Wallace, 247-4338 or Kathy Hasulak, 247-6491 to get one. They are also selling a flashing light you can install on your premises which will burn steadily or flash if needed to call the attention of the Rescue Squad or Firemen when they are answering your call. "This is the place!" They are only $10. You can get one through any member or call Rene Ingram 247-4609 or Millie Herbst, 247-7427 to place your order. services available here. We have the Wachovia Building offering banking services. The Kirkman Building houses the expanded Library of which we are so proud. Kirkman, Whitford, Kirkman S Jenkins have a law office here, also. Chalk S Gibbs opened a branch office for real estate and insurance at the very beginning and it is a full time service. Noting that we also have now a doctor and a beautician on the premises we went to talk to them. □r. Lawrence K. Thompson, III welcomed us to his office on the second floor where he comes on Fridays for consultations, minor surgery and the all important follow-ups. His greeting was warm and down-to-earth. Indeed he seemed more like an old fashioned family «ctor than the highly specialized Plastic Surgeon he is. We felt welcome and comfortable we were shown through the office. Even the room where minor surgery is done posed no threat when shown by this friendly, outgoing man. The impression was further enhanced as he talked proudly about his wife, Mary Lou, and his three children, L.K. Jr., Mark and Elizabeth. He also waxed nostalgic about growing up in a jsmall town in Pennsylvania [Camp Hill] before he went to Duke on a basketball scholar ship and continued on through its Medical School. Durham now is his home. Dr. Thompson carries on 90% of his practice right in his office although he is Chief, Division of Plastic surgery at Durham County General Hospital. He, his associate and rurse have an operating room right there, saving many patients the expense of hospitalization. We asked him how he happened to choose Pine Knoll Shores 'co open a part time office. Ke said there were a couple of reasons. He has many patients in the area and it is good to have an office here for the follow up consultations they need. He knows the area because he has a vacation home in Emerald Isle. He also felt there was need here since there is no other Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in the area. Or. Thompson should feel at home here in Pine Knoll Shores. Judy’s Hairstylists was next. We dropped in to see Judy as she was getting set up and again after she opened on October 1st. Judy is another friendly soul, as is her assistant, Michelle Krewson. We felt at peace in the seafoam green, [appropriate for this Oceanside location, wouldn't you say?] peach and grey decor--these soft colors chosen by her husband, Judy told us. •Born and raised in Broad Creek, Judy is married to Howard "Butch" Anderson originally Morehead. She has a son and a step-daughter. All the Andersens live in Newport now. PINE KNOLL VILLAGE Pine Knoll Shores is growing up. Since the advent of Pine Knoll Village there are new
