PUBLIC HEARING HELD
Prior to their monthly board meeting, the Commissioners conducted
a public hearing on additions to the sign ordinance. These changes
would: change the limited size of ground signs in multi-family zones
from 50 sq. ft. to 15 sq. ft; require temporary signs to be placed
parallel to the street, limit their number to one per lot, disallow those
marked "sold", and require that they be removed when the premises are no
longer for sale; allow non-profit organizations to erect a sign announcing
a benefit event within time and size limits; allow "Open House" signs
restricted as to size and number and duration of display; allow "Yard^
Sale" signs with like restrictions; and require that a permit be obtained;
but not require a fee for such permit.
There was discussion from the floor and from the Board. It was
suggested that limiting Open House and Yard Sale signs to only two was not
practical for all areas of the town. Some places would never be found
without signs at critical crossroads. Other comments were favorable to
the proposed changes.
